The Advertising Standards Agency banned them from making any performance or economy claims about their product, since they couldn't produce any evidence that they worked.

So, officially, they don't work.

i got one... it makes a noise as if its doing something but apart from making the engine feel better when you let go of the throttle it doesnt seem to do an awful lot?

ibiza95 fella, take it off it doesnt work, it taps into your breake vacuum, thats not a good thing.

I had one too, was on a golf gti, kind of sounded like this, brrrrrrrrrrr...waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, and it made no performance gains, £60 down the drain
