Right then, the saga continues.

Been having issues with battery drain recently, posted a lot about it in another thread already. To sum up, 0.3 amp being constantly drained from the battery, couldn't figure out where. Know the battery is good, suspected alternator fault, possibly diode pack failure.

Went to get refurbished alternator today, told the guy the symptoms. He straight away said he didn't think the alternator was at fault, tested it, reckoned it's fine. Recommended a nearby auto electrician.

Phoned them up, told him the make and model, and the issue. He was able to guess my car was a diesel fr, apparently one of his staff had the exact same problem. So, they (a team of auto electricians) couldn't figure it out, sent the guys car to seat for investigation.

Here's the boot in the baws.

Seat told them it was the ecu that was draining the battery, apparently it wasn't switching off, hence car is dead next day. This guy traded his car in, but I'm stuck with mine for now!

So, has this happened to anyone else on here? Were you able to fix it without replacing the ecu? If so, how? And, the question I'm scared to ask: how much is a new ecu? Ive heard 4 figure numbers getting bandied about for a new ecu. Also, my car was mapped (before I got it) so a new ecu won't have that on it, unless I get a blank one and my map is copied to it, is that right?

In the meantime, I need to park it on a hill so I can bump start it, or get a boost pack and keep it in the car. It was suggested I disconnect the battery every night, tried that last night, need to leave it unlocked or the alarm goes off.

Sorry for rambling on folks. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated, as always.

Buy a new alternator then take it to a better auto electrician.

My Friend had this problem with his Ibiza 1.6 Tdi, he took it back to the dealership they plugged the car in and updated It and I'm sure that was the end of the problems.

Some ibizas had battery drain issues caused by the Central electronics module. This was rectified by a software update.

Only of they update the engine ecu and not the central electronics unit.
