I've done a search and I have found that there are a few ways off doing the EGR valve mod/bypass and not get an ECL.
Mine is a 2004 Leon Cupra 150 TDi so I know the ECU does a vaccuum check on start up and as I have a bung in the pipe at the moment I have a permanent ECL present.
One of the ways mentioned was to use a gasket/spacer from a skoda, I remember a couple of the guys doing this when I was in UKPassats and had it done to mine as well, but I can't find anything which says what part number to order from the Skoda dealer and I was given the one that was used on the passat.
I know Glyn made a spacer with a 4mm hole in it, but I was looking at doing the gasket thing as it seemed easier than trying to fabricate a spacer as I'm not good at that sort of thing
.
Any help and advice appreciated.
