Heya Guys and Girls,

Ive got a quick question, need to get my biza, alarmed but all the alarms ive found need electric central locking, and as mine uses a vacuum pump, i need to replace the lot.

Basically i just need to know how much of a pain itl be?

anybody help?

I would have thought that it makes no difference - the pneumatic pump is still electrically operated...

This is not a unique system to Ibiza's or even Seats - pretty much all VAG group cars use it - if people are fitting aftermarket alarms to golfs etc. then I can't see that you'd need to replace the whole system...

Is it a DIY job? Suggest talking to your local alarm / ICE installers for some pointers... If you're getting putting in an alarm for insurance purposes it needs to be professionally installed with a certificate to prove it.

Nah it aint for insurance, mines pretty low at the moment anyway, just coz both the pins in my door handles are replacing blag jobs and i dont trust them for that long, just gonna put a cheap alarm on it then fit the remote locking.

i didnt know they were electric, i thort they ran using rods!!!

The system works on pneumatic pressure.

The pressure is increased or reduced by an electric pump.

Once the low or high pressure setpoint is reached, the pump has a mechanical switch which sets it to 'blow' or 'suck'.

From memory, it's 'blow' to open and 'suck' to close...
