Bump back up an old thread again!!
I had a slight rise of temperature when sat in traffic in my LCR a few weeks back. Had done abot 15-20 miles down the motorway at 80-85 with a constant 90 deg on the guage, then after travelling at 30-50 for a couple of miles we came to a stop in bad traffic. Really slowly the guage rose to about 3/4 before any fan cut in, which judging by the noise must have been high speed. After that everything was OK and the guage stayed around 90.
So that prompted me to search on here where i stumbled across this thread. Today, my LCR was dropped off at Amethyst SEAT (Cheltenham) for a service and for the low speed fans to be looked at, as i have nothing running with the aircon on. Is this lack of low speed fans likely to have caused the temp rise above too or might this be the water pump??
I just hope the extended warranty covers it all........

Most likely to be the water pump. When my fan went the temperature never moved from its usual position.

Is it still likely to be the water pump regardless of the fact that it's not gone over 90 deg since? Only did it once in that traffic jam, stayed a steady 90 after that, and not once has it gone above since, not even at a steady 90+ on my own private stretch of M5?? Just a bit concerned as i've not mentioned any possible water pump problems b ut i did stress the fans not coming on low speed.
Do you still think i have the low speed fan problem too??
Is there any chance that a broken water pump impellor could cause a rattle on start up occasionally? I've put that down to a slow filling tappet, which is the lead i gave them when i booked it in........

When my water pump needed replacing the garage said that one of the symptoms was that the top pipe going into the radiator was cold.
