Electric Window issues

I have had my Arosa (1.4TDi) since the end of October; ever since I bought it the drivers side window has had a problem. It opens but not quite all the way down, it stops about 10cm before the bottom and will not go down any further. It closes fine and if you get in the way of it closing the auto reverse feature does take the window go almost the rest of the way down; though I don't want to use that technique to get it open more in case it puts too much stain on the mechanism.
The car had the problem when I bought it and the garage was going to fix it, but apparently when they took the door card off it seemed to be working, then when I picked it up it had stopped again. I was in a hurry for the car so I took it as it was, although did get some money off.

Another issue is that the passenger side window, that previously worked fine, will not open at all now. When you press the button there is a click and then about a second later, if you keep holding it, another click (like a relay) but the window makes not attempt to move.

Any ideas what either of these problems are likely to be? Is it some sort of adjustment to tell the window where to stop (on the drivers side at least).

I don't have electric windows on my Arosa so I can't offer any advice other than to have a look through the search at the top and see if anyone else has had the same problem. Looking through I found the following that may not be an exact answer but, might be of some use to you.

Thanks. there was a link in that post to clublupo forum with a description of how to take it all apart. It looks from this like the passenger side at least may be just that it has got a bit stuck.
Looking at some of the other results from the search it sounds like the windows try and be too clever for their own good stopping when there is any resistence.

Looks like I may have to live with it until I have time to take it all apart.

I had a few problems with my windows during the life of the vehicle and here was the problem and fix.

Window would not go down at all on drivers side (could hear relay like on your pasenger window problem). FIX: new window switch, approx £10 from dealer.

Window would only go down half way. FIX: WD40 down either side of the window seal while window open, eventually it seem to go fully down after I did this a few times?.

My advice would be to try swapping the switches on the drivers door card (you have 2 switches so atleast one must work?) and see what the opposite window to switch does. Simply remove the swicth bank and then swap the connectors on the back. If not a £10 would be a good gamble with a new switch, try it on both windows (the slightest bit of rain in these things bugger them up so easily!!!)

Apart form that they are just querky but you learn to just live with it? lol

I must admit my first thoughts had been that the switch must be ok because if it was making the click it must be putting power through to the window motor or something. But now you mention it, the click comes when you use the switch on the passenger door itself; the drivers door switch for the passenger window sometime does nothing at all and other times will make the click, so I think this one is definitely a bit tempremental. Also quite a while back both did refuse to open at all and after repeatedly pressing the button they did open, then typically refused to close , luckily they did in the end.

But since then the drivers one had gone back to opening must of the way then stopping. So I think there is only one switch out of three that is any good really, and even that isn't perfect. But I will give it a go, at least if the behaviour swaps over then I can just get some more switches. At least that should be an easier fix in terms of fitting.

The window switches are of poor quality. I noticed one of mine is playing up again, its the passenger switch on the drivers side. It will wind the window up but not down (so have to lean over and use the passenger one!) The last time I replaced one it was a cow to get hold of and had to order it in from VW as the local SEAT just come out with ''the computer says, no''

Its pointless getting 2nd hand ones as they dont last as long and arnt cheaper? I think it was £10 each switch last time I ordered one.

hello i had he same problem ,
a mate extended the window wires as they were too short and got caught which resulted in the windows stopping 3/4 way down.
He extended the drivers side and that is prefect now. Its a bit tricky to do but worth it
