Yep, reversing into the garage, and it caught a fence post, on the way in.

Damage:
It's primarily the back Black plastic surround, that is closest to the window thats shattered.
Plus, the complete wing mirror assembly now seems "looser" and has a slight wobble.

Anyone replaced the Plastics on one of these electric wing mirrors - is it an easy job?
Fortunately the electric functions all still work perfectly - angling the mirror/plus it folds up fine.

Perhaps its time for an upgrade too - always wanted to swap the Silver FR surrounds for some Cupra Black ones. :)

Its only the caps that swap over, if there is damage to that, then change them! If there isn't damage to that, change them anyway :p Try and get some from ebay etc as the dealers only sell them primed now I believe :(
I would assume it's a whole new assembly, door card off etc, but if it still works, I'd live with it being loose :)

Danny,

Hi Danny, thankyou for your speedy feedback.
Sorry, what are the Caps - you do mean the plastic covers?

I've contacted a Dealer, who states, the whole Wing mirror assembly comes complete (as you indicate), ie: the front/rear plastics dont come as parts individually. However that doesnt include the mirror piece itself!

So, if the door card comes off, then will the complete Wing Mirror come off in one piece?
Then simply a matter of bolting the new one on? (if only things were this simple).
My next question now, is probably going to be, how easy is it to remove the door Card!

Yeah, the plastic covers, i got them for my FR, in gloss black :)
Tbh, your best bet is to go to halfrauds and get a new piece of glass that sticks over the damaged one, less then £15 i believe :)
The door card is screws at the bottom and one behind the handle/window switch I believe, it should just be one bolt and the electrical connector :) then the door card pulls off from the bottom with clips at the top under the window :)

Danny

OK great. Well the mirror is intact, not cracked or broken (dont know how it comes out of the wing mirror assembly though), plus it has the heated mirror electrics connected too.

Thankyou for the door card info. Is there much holding the Wing mirror on, you mentioned the electric cable and a bolt?

Think I'm going to have a go at this at the weekend - if I do, I will update this thread with a COMPLETE ELECTRIC WING MIRROR REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT Guide (plus pics)! HAHA. :D ;)

Dealer quotes £65 for the Wing Mirror assembly (+vat?), which doesnt include the Cover or mirror itself.

Thankyou for your additional feedback, I'm starting to feel a little better about getting this resolved without too many issues (just out of pocket around £100).

Okay, well I believe the glass just pulls out but be careful! Haha, yeah, as far as I'm aware, just the connectors and a bolt and it should pull off as I believe the motor for the mirror is in the stalk of the actual mirror. Yeah do a guide, it will help people, but as I said, I would go for the cupra mirror caps as it makes the car look so much better! But it should be easy to do, just make sure you put the door card back properly otherwise you get a large gap at the top :)

if only that was so simple....

removing front door cards is absolute pain in the @ss. Leave yourself good 2h to do each side... and you have to unbolt window from runners as window running mechanisms are part of door card.

I assume we are talking Leon 1P not the face lift 1P which is a different beast [ just in case you order from fleabay] the latter is quite a dog to remove compared with the earlier design

Yes, the car is a 57 plate FR. Not good hearing how major just removing the door cards is.

(can understand it really tho, what with the electric window buttons / speaker to disconnect too, plus Window mechanism - it's starting to sound like major surgery)!

Saying all this, could have been worse, could have taken out a wheel arch too, having got so close that I took the wing mirror. Live and learn, perhaps I'll just leave her on the driveway in the future! lol.

Predo, thankyou for posting the PDF's / link to that other Thread. Thats a great help.

It states it's a 45 minute job, but you know how these things go, never as simple or straightforward as they might appear - that usually take twice as long, then dont fit back together properly! Call me a pessimist! :)

So I went about fitting the whole new Wing Mirror today.

The good news...
Got the door pieces off with no probs, even the Door Card came off swifty. New electric wing mirror on and operating perfectly.

The bad news...
Just cant get the door card back on, with the Window runners attached behind??

Problem being, the metal window runners I understand are positioned INSIDE the door, behind the door skin?
But they also mate with the door card, once you apply it to the back of the door, but there's just no space to mate them together, while holding it up against the back of the door?

End result, yes, the door card goes back on the door, but the metal window runners (behind the door skin) arent/wont mate with the back of the door card, and lie loose inside, not aligned.

Am I doing something wrong here - as in the picture in the PDF of the removed doorcard, he has the runners still attached on the back!?

..............if that made any sense at all!
