electrical issues?

is the mk2 prone to electrical issues at all?

i replaced the driver side front indicator about 2 weeks ago as it had gone, driving home from work today and the same bulb had gone again

or is it more likely to be crappy halfords bulbs?

Its more probably just a case of the car been that age that somethines bound to go eventually. I had to replace 2 rear indicators, 1 front sidelight and headlight, 2 rear brake lights in the space of a week or so. A year later i've not had one go yet

Its probably just bad luck m8 combined with the age, if of course it blows any more on the same circuit i'd start investigating more.
