yesterday i took my car to castle combe to give it a little thrashing around the track and to see how it compared to my old ibiza, had a good couple of laps and my car was feeling awesome power wise but after making my way home car still felt as good as the day it was mapped even givin it the usual abuse off the severn tolls on the way home still fine.

after gettin stuck in trafic on the way home i was in second gear crawling followin other traffic when the traffic cleared i put my foot down to get back up2 speed as trafic was clearing after a bump when as i accelerated got to about 4k in the revs when it spluttered twice and held back then made an almighty bang and filled the motorway with smoke that came from the exhaust( and there had 2 be police right by the side of me when it happened but they were fine about it apart from i was in the slow lane onthe motorway as no hard shoulder) and had lost all power tried turning it over while i was coasting to stop but was dead and wont start as if the battery was dead,

so after lettin it cool down and bein towed off the road had a look to see if i could find out roughly whats gone i checked that i still have all coolant and oil in engine but when i took the intercooler pipes off there was oil in there so im guessing that it could be turbo failier has anyone had this issue before? as im sure that at least the car would start with the turbo gone just would smoke like hell or isit thaat they have soo many sensors that its detected somethin wrong and refuses to start?

cheers gaz

if I had to guess, and its not likely good news..
dropped a valve
:(

try to remove the plugs... one or more wont likely come out, and if it does, it wont look very healthy

stock valves and BT's & revs are not happy bedmates

lol ive had a good think about it and im sure its bad not done anythin to the car since it broke but it didnt seem good when it went, not as bothered as i thought id be as i have a spare engine, i thought it might be oil pump or somethin down those lines as it jus stopped and when i tried to start it it was if the battery was dead as if something was jammin it up,

so the question is can i still use my engine thats just give out and get it forged with new valves rods pistons etc or is it totally shot?

if it went like my mk4 golf did... which dropped a valve.. it was totalled. bore needed a rebore as it was scored, good excuse for 83mm, head was trash as was turbo from debris. only thing recoverable aside from block was rods and crank.

hoping this does'nt sound like angel of doom, but it was pretty well toasted.

Drop some rods into your new motor and consider some valves/springs for the revving its getting on BT.

Its the sort of failure you only want to experience once.

wel ive just been out to have a look at it and tried to get the plugs out the first 3 came out ok but the 1 in cilinder 4 has jammed in so i took the rocker cover off so i could get at the head bolts and i dont have the right size tool to do it typical, does any1 know what the size i need is? as im sure its t50 but my tool kit only goes to t45,

bill can you pm me a price on pistons, rods and valves+ springs on its own and a rough price on fittin it all, (i kno its hard to give a quote on this as you've got to expect problems on the way as happened when we mapped it) or can you say roughly how many hours labour it would be to do it cheers.

what spec pistons mate?
see what the bore condition is first... as it may need a rebore is something has scored your bore now.

im not sure on what spec pistons as of yet but ill see how much of the cilinder has been scored, hopefully not much but im expectin the worst anyway. are they 81mm standard?

ill gett the head off as soon as i get 5 mins and im assuming if the damage is more than a few mm its dead, is this right?

how much power will the standat pistons take? as i have a spare engine i may just get new rods for that now as wel as new valves/springs and whatever, but hopefully the engine that has let go its not that bad and can maybe re-bore that engine and do it over some time,

any advice would be great thanks
