I have got a 2009 fr with the tsi lump in it and I bought it with 13000 miles on it last year, now done 18000,

I do feel like I am sitting on a ticking time bomb .

I did however take out the all component seat cover on it, wonder if it's covered ?

Not sure, but assuming that is a comprehensive warranty, it should be covered, it isn't exactly a wear and tear item! Exclusions are normally detailed on the policy so you should check these.

I dont have the engine code to hand. But the tensioner fitted is the same as has been causing issues with the vw's and skodas with the same engine.

Out of interest what is your engine code?

Only seat leon with the 2.0 TSI (as far as im aware) carries the CCZB engine code.

And you don´t need to worry about this, yes, there is failures across the world, but its not near as big as the interweb will make you belive (never the less sad when it happens)
Its a shame Seat doesn´t pick up the tabs on a let down customer, but as stated before the missed service is most likely the cause. Just have a search on this site and see how many of these that pops up, its not alot considering this is one of the largest Seat sites on the web.

If it was me in your situation, i would find a reputable shop and just get the valves/head replaced. Most likely its all there is needed. The pistons are pretty hardcore and doesn´t go down easily, where as the valves is incredible soft and and just bends at the smallest touch.

You could even have the engine stripped completly down, get it bored up and go for a forged piston setup, will be less than your current bill and you will get a better product out of it.

Old style tensioner on the right, new one on the left.

What I find very odd is that of all the failures I have managed to investigate all have had religious service history. Some failing a few weeks after the service

Its just bad luck mate.

The problem is the BLUE piece. The tensioner itself is usally fine, its just the C clamp holding it all together that fails. The C clamp is just holding it self on with its own force, so it can easily fall off if its needed.

The "new" tensioner has a big fat (and i mean big for what it could have been) coil clamping around those slashes into the bolt. It can in no way move back into place when it first comes out (unless you use the service tool, and that is only possible if it moves a little way forward first ~ it can´t go back when there is pressure on it)

I haven´t read of a single failure on the newer style tensioner. There has been failures on those in between (stronger C clamp in 2 revisions) But not on the newer one. There was a thread on golfmk6 where he claimed it had failed, but it turned out he had an older tensioner, even though hes engine was from 2013

Sorry to read this is still going on! Where is your car now?? I take it you've had to get another car in the meantime?

Car is still with supplying dealer. They have me in a courtesy car. Unbelievable after who I have emailed recently Seat UK communication is shocking I was assured an email beginning of the week and not a dicky bird.

##UPDATE##

Received a call today from Seat UK raising their original goodwill offer from £722.13 to £1000 and a free service.
The way I have been treated by Seat UK considering the amount spent on the vehicle is appalling.
I would of expected a personal acknowledgement via Mr Griggs or Mr Williamson at the very least out of common courtesy instead of the instantly argumentative Gareth I have had the displeasure of dealing with.

Go and camp out on their driveway on a sunny weekend with a mahoosive board warning customers about engines failing!!! 1 or 2 potential customer leaving due to concern is going to cost them a lot more that 4k.

I know a guy who went down to Porsche GB in Reading and parked an artic lorry in the entrance so nobody could get in because he was unhappy with the way he was dealt with. Lol.

No that is just their goodwill contribution I am expected to pay the other £4300:lol:

HOW MUCH, you could get your own engine rebuilt and and refitted with all parts and labour for £2k maximum ,,

All it requires is too take the head off, the valves will be bent, replace them, 99.9% sure the pistons will not be damaged! they just bend the valves when contact occurs,

I know you don't want to have to payout but if you have to,, I'd get a couple of quotes from engine rebuilders, it will be less then half what seat are charging,, where abouts are you,, I know a few good engine rebuilders around warrington area,,

Or there's the option of a 2nd hand engine from a dismantler

From those I have contacted don't want to touch this engine. I need a new head as the guide has been sheared off.

Poor you mate.
Dealing with Gareth is difficult, I dealt with him twice and both times got nowhere and told him to f*** off both times.
What an absolute bell end.
My advice is keep cool and turn up the pressure where you can, an absolute joke the way they're treating you especially on a known problem.

I had the complete opposite with Gareth thought he was great and very fair

I think your situation is a bit hit and miss considering the service history of the car, I actually do beleive he is doing the best he can for you

I do hope you get this sorted and would be gutted if i was in the same position

My argument is that I bought the car new from seat.
Had 3 seat dealer stamps.
Mileage anniversary is not until 41k.

Another member bought car used from BMW
Had service history was late on latest service but within mileage.
Got 75% goodwill after battle.

It just doesnt add up.

They say about case by case basis but dont use the same criteria in each case

They seem to pluck numbers out of a hat

How do you go from 722.13 to 1000 ffs!!

It depends how much they've give away that month and whether they need to save money.
Nothing about customer service or what's right it's all about figures.

They use a matrix system aswell. So down one side could be the age of the car/service history and down the bottom the problems and they usually get a % when my turbo went they gave me 70% I think it was. Mine had FSSH and 8 month out of manufacturer warranty.

Luckily I had a service 2 month before at seat and was told by somebody in the know if I had of missed that I would of only got 20%.

Luckily for me the turbo manufacturer covered the other 30% and I got £200 from the original seat dealer so in the end I got a free turbo and £200 lol.
