Engine information and starting problems

Hello everyone I am after some advice.

Own a Seat Ibiza 2.0 Sport 04 plate and I need some advice. I believe the engine is an 8V unit. I am trying to find mroe information about the engine to try and fix an exisiting fault.
Which other vag cars has this engine been in? Am I right in thinking its in the 2.0 mark 4 golf gti?

The issue is a starting issue in cold weather or when the cars cold. Basically the car struggles to start engine turns over a fine. Then sometimes on starting it will cut straight out unless you rev it a lot. Once its warm its all fine and idle is held normally too.

I appreciate that this could be a multitude of sensors! just wondering if it is common, a mechanic been struggling to find any faults with the car. I know a bit about engines so I am trying to learn more about this type of engine to fix the fault.

It doesn't bother me too much, but my girlfriends a nurse and has to be on emergancy call for operations, not good when its struggling to start !

I don't know much about these particular engines but my girlfriends 1.2 Clio also has an 8 valve engine, she had it serviced abouot a year ago and they fitted standard single electrode spark plugs to it, after this it struggled to start I then chaned the spark plugs for twin electrdode (see image) this solved the issue for me, don't know if it would be the same for you...

The same engine has been used (either AZL or BBX engine codes) in VW Polo (9N 04 and newer), Skoda Fabia (5J) and also naturally in Seat Cordoba 6L.

Thanks for the super quick replys! I will investigate this engine more.

The spark plug issue is a very good point my old 1.4 16v rover k series a few year ago I bought the cheap recommended plugs singles and it really struggled to get going. Changed to doubles and it was all good.

I will look through the service history see when they were changed issue is our mechanic is a family friend so we do not always get an itinary !
