Engine light on -Missfiring

I sold my cupra to my GF's brother and the engine light has just come on and the car has started to missfire. This sounds to me like a coil pack, what you reckon? How do you diagnose which one is gone? How easy are they to swap? How much do they cost?
Does anyone have Vagcom near to warrington that would plug in for a few beers?

I'd say nearly definately a coil pack

Pull a cable on the first coil pack and start it up....if it runs the same as with it plugged in its that one. If it runs worse its not that one so plug is back in and try the next.

You can get them for about £20 from any VAG place really. Euro Car Parts etc.

Really easy to swap pull the plug on it and basically pull upwards, should just pop out and the new one pops in!!

undo the clip for the wiring connector

PULL up

will be hot if the engines been running...

This was posted on my behalf as I now own the car, how do you get to the coil packs? Is it a case of just removing the 4 allen bolts and pulling the n249? off?

yer mate thinks theres 3 or 4 allen key bolts!! im am the least mechanically minded person ever n i changed my coil's!!! v easy job to do, i paid 100 quid for all 4 from a audi dealership!! ey matt!! lol

yh took the + lead off 4 10 mins and it reset it self
took it on a test drive everythin seems fine
just cleaned the seats to get the water mark out that r helen made lol
u doing no work agen ?

I done nothin all day apart from take some helicopters to the mail room and scan the internet looking for the best way to blag Sky +!

i have the same prob.... took out all the coils and in 4th cyl there was no spark...
