where should the engine management light be on a 99 t plate 1.9tdi toledo s?? i seem to have a missing light in the grid of six in the middle at the top!!!

I've just gone out to compare it to mine, and unfortunately its a 3x5 grid, so its not much help to you! In the middle at the top of mine is the handbrake warning!
It should light up when you turn the ignition on, if it doesn't then its possibly hiding a problem. It used to be a common way of selling cars with faults to just 'remove the bulb', then people started to cotton on to it...

Try shining a bright light on it at an angle, there might be enough of a reflection for you to determine what the symbol is.
Its quite possible that its simply something like 'low washer fluid' or something that trivial, but it still makes the engine management light come on. Do yoiu have access to engine diagnostics, either a friendly dealer or someone with VAGCOM?

well i looked in the manual last night and it seems where i thought it should be should actually be the brake wear monitor light. the engine management light should be in the speedo at the top. interestingly this is also out all the time so now im thinking the dash is coming out to see what is going on.![[:@]](/forums/styles/seatcupra/oldforumsmileys/furious.gif "Furious [:@]")
right found out that my egr has been blanked off but no engine management light is on which i think means its either been disconnected ot blanked off to look normal. what does the EGR do exactly? i mean why would seat and ford put something on thier cars that makes them perform worse??? it doesnt make any sense. i mean it would cost more in parts and time and they arent exactly rolling in money at the moment??
Engine management light has not been blanked off. Its only been owned by A.the dealer B. the first owner, C. the second owner (ME) and you. EGR was blanked by me personally ,engine management light has never come on because of a fault. It should not come on, on this model if you blank the EGR. Only the later engines have ECUs that are unhappy about blanking EGR. This is a T reg, compared to some of the people on here, you are driving a very old car, you are looking for faults that are not there. If the MAF gets a bit dirty, the Management light doesn,t come on, even if the vanes got a bit sooty, I don,t think this management light would come on. I shouldn,t think its software is anything as sensitive as on later or (PD) cars. There must be a Vagcom way of testing the light.???
See my other post on Dashboard removal. Are you sure these lights you are looking for should come on???? you are comparing with a Saxo, you really need to compare with another TDI 110S on this site. Ask someone to look at their Dash lights/positions. I think I would have noticed if any lights hadn,t lit up when they should. I,ve been driving VWs since the 70,s. As I have said, blanking The EGR would only bring up a light on a later car, this one wouldn,t notice it. And that car has never had any faults that would bring on a light anyway. (don,t think a low battery would)
Just noticed yr rant about EGR...sadly its only on there for the EU greenies, it is tested once at the factory and is never required or tested again. If we were not members of the EU then this car would not have or need an EGR...Governments should keep out of car design and leave it to engineers, cars would probably be faster and more econimical. Ha ha..tell me when did anything a Government ever required make any sense.
