Engine mounts

So apparently VW racing say only 1 of the mounts should be sufficient for road use. does anyone know which one that is?

Just need to get this part fitted with two other bits I have waiting and that will be my cupra done. :)

I think they say just the lower subframe (dogbone/pendulum) mount should be adequate to reduce engine slop. The engine and gearbox mounts can be added at a later date to pretty much eliminate engine movement altogether but will give a fair bit of noise and feedback through into the cabin once fitted.

I fitted the BSH upper mounts to my car but removed them after a couple of days as they were too 'loud' for me, but saying that i even found a non-resonated Milltek too boomy lol.

Well i have the 2 side mounts and i think the extra noise just adds to the overall racey sound of my car. I now have zero engine movement. From what iv,e heard the lower mount is noisy and generates quite a few rattles. Depends what your willing to sacrifice in the quest is suppose. RobH has one fitted so hopefully he,ll be along soon to comment.

i have the vwr lower sub frame mount (solid race version) and you get a fair bit of noise in the cabin thats for sure but i think im gonna swap it for the fast road one when i get the clutch done feb/march its just too noisey, and yes it does generate rattles but i think the fast road version is all good, may also be temted by a diff .

Best bet is to ring up and ask VWR what they think would be best for your needs.

G,

You can get them at:

Volkswagen Racing
4 Quatro Park
Tanners Drive
Blakelands
Milton Keynes
MK14 5BP

Phone: 01908 210088

I emailed them recently and they quoted £250.49 for the Lower Subframe mount including fitting and VAT.

BSH said they will do me a deal on some mounts.

I only want the one though, basically I just want to reduce engine movement a bit to reduce the possibility of anything breaking. Other than that Im looking to spend as little on the car now as possible, and aim to just keep it reliable, serviced, v-powered, and rubbered up with the stickiest stuff, till I trade her in

Thanks Alex and Robh i will give them a call in the morning

Yeah i think the fast road mount will be the best for me aswell as i dont want something that will vibrate in the cabin too much and increase the noise either

@poverty what sort of deal you getting from BSH?

Might be, but I would be keen to know how they compare to the VF Engineering ones.

they look the same but the bsh dude says thats where similarities end. Still need to read up on them more myself tbh.

I have the VF engineering mounts fitted on the ED30. They too transfer some sound and vibration through into the cabin, but they are not quite as hard as the BSH from the feedback I have had from the guys over on the GTI forums. Personally I love the extra sound that comes with the mounts. The vibration isn't intrusive and is almost stock at speed - the overall benefit outweighs any downsides for me[B)]

Is this that makes me sway toward VF Engineering to be honest. Will need to price up VF ones again.

I bought mine from Jonnyc:)

they were a LOT less than retail and looked almost brand new[B)]

Regal are the dealers in the UK for VF;) and I think they are around £500 or so.

450 for all three from jkm, but then you still have to pay vat on top of that
