I appreciate your comments Mitchy but I do drive "properly".

People that purchase Impreza's & the like obviously prefer "loud" cars; drive them as such & expect things to wear out quicker.

Perhaps I am used to the reliability of Toyotas (see my earlier notes). Incidentally, in the Seat I am still on the same pads/discs but not tyres.

my clutch has just started slipping at 71k on a 03 plate LCR it has been remapped since 15k miles so dealing with 276lbs ft + of torque for that long i think it has done quite well and like mitchy is saying you need to realise that you do have a car that standard is 200+ bhp and it is more down to driving style when ur clutch fails. I hve never taken mine down a 1/4 mile strip, never do high rev standing starts, and when i drive 90% of the time i am matching the right gears for the speed i am doing and so that i can accelerate with out putting to much pressure on the clutch.

Caec...53k miles on original discs/pads:blink:

My pads last no more than 15k and discs no more than 25k:cry:

That's good going but i would dread to think how safe your brakes are if you really needed to stamp on them hard incase of emergency. At 50k+ there's going to be little material left even if the car has had a granny behind the wheel all of its life.

Not saying your a granny lol, just saying thats very good going, you must be a careful and mechanically sympathetic driver i would say:)

Like has been said before, its mainly down to driving style. Plod along at 2500rpm in 6th and use it to accelerate on full throttle, your clutch isn't going to last long at all.

All the best with the claim, will be good info if SEAT give you a goodwill gesture :)

You paid under £150 for clutch and a gearbox? If so i take it, its a cheap standard replacement?

Uprated clutch for LCR should cost you £500+ and then fitting on top. A good £750 i would say. Thats how much mine cost and i got mine on the cheap. It is rated for 450/450 though :)

Not sure why someone would fit a standard clutch back on their car when its obvious high torque from a remap is to blame? Surely its just going to happen again?

oh yeah, i got a new clutch + gearbox for £150!! all in it stung me for around a grand;
£150ish for the clutch kit
£520 for a secondhand gearbox
£350ish for other parts and labour

i did think about getting a spec clutch as it was TTS doing the work on my car anyway but i couldn't afford it. so i got an OE spec sachs jobby. the remap wasn't the reason i changed my clutch either, the fact my gearbox blew up was the reason i changed my clutch.

Not a granny - am a grandad though!

Anyway, thought you might like to know that Seat have agreed to reimburse 40% of the parts cost for my clutch, as a goodwill gesture. Not a lot as it turns out as labour was the brunt of the bill + VAT.

I am waiting for the cheque from the garage as it has to go through them but I would like to thank Hidsons of Maidstone Kent, for their help. Initially Seat said "no" when I wrote to them but after a chat with the garage & the info they gave me, I spoke with Seat & argued the toss & they agreed to contribute!

Happy Christmas to one & all!

That's why i told SEAT to poke their warranty when mine went, it was cheaper for me to pay for an uprated friction disc, new pressure plate, thrust releasebearing, flywheel AND labour than it was for the main dealer to inspect / change the flywheel under warranty and charge me the labour. Next one that gets fitted won't be a DMF either.
