Engine "sounds"

I couldn't see any discussion on this (apologies if it has) but is the sound related to a driving mode supposed to remain "set"?

When I first got the car (May 2021) I used to have the car in Sport option (so with muted mock engine noise); I now use the personal settings option (cog symbol) where I have also selected Sport engine noise. However, in both scenarios, the car often starts up with no mock noise (just the normal driving mode noise) and, once on the road, I have to toggle through the offroad, normal, sport, cupra, personal modes to get the sound working again.

Is this normal? The dealer thought so (not sure why). I'm hoping 1896 may solve it.

Not a major issue...just an extra irritation!

PS. Should add that I refer to the "noise" as that is easier to notice immediately; the other relevant settings (engine, steering, suspension) may also not stay as set on start up.

I'm not sure about the fake sound as I have unplugged the soundaktor.

But the car will not open the flaps if you start the car in Cupra/sport mode. You have to change the mode once the car starts for the flaps to open. Maybe fake sound works the same way.

My VZ2 always starts in comfort mode, so no soundaktor, then I simply press the mode (Cupra) button 3 times to get to the personalised (cog) setting (which I have added the noise) and I'm away. Easy peasy.

My VZ2 310 starts in the last setting it was in.

Do you have a profile set as that saves all your last settings.

Thanks all. So it sounds like the car will usually start in "normal" mode. It is not an issue toggling through but seems a bit unnecessary especially if everything else is saved as user preference (and something to add to other things to wait for/settings to change on start up).

Thanks. Interesting. I noticed similar threads for other models and also checked the handbook (always a good place to start I guess!). The handbook states:

"When the engine is switched off it will store the driving profile that was selected when the ignition was turned off. When re-started, the engine and the gearbox will start in their Normal mode. To return the engine and gear to your desired mode, re-select the corresponding driving profile."

So I think that means that if I select Sport, for example, the engine, gearbox, suspension, steering and fake noise will change. When I switch off it will remember I was in Sport. When I start up again it will display Sport and the suspension/steering will be in Sport (as it has "stored" the setting) but the engine, gearbox and noise (which I believe is related to engine settings) will revert to Normal unless I toggle through again (????).

Unbelievably stupid in my eyes (what is the point of a user profile and, if reverting to Normal, why not display Normal?).

What happened to cars that just worked when you switched them on?

I have mine in sport 99% of the time, with mild soundaktor sound. Each time I start the car the same mode is pre selected. It also remembers the gear box settings.

That's weird. Never noticed it in mine, although that is a hybrid so the engine rarely runs. It remembers the last driving profile I was in.

A quick shortcut is to hold the Cupra/Profile selection button for half a second. That makes it go directly to Cupra mode. Do it again and it goes back to the previous profile. Could make it slightly easier than flipping through all 4 profiles.

OK. Thanks all. Weird...or may be not given the idiosyncracies of the operating system! Guess I'll just toggle through while waiting for everything else to load.
For those whose settings do not change dare I ask what software version they are on?
I am beginning to realise why Cupra sponsor mystery drama 😁😳 (those not in the UK may not understand that!)

Mine is on 1890 and always starts in comfort mode, it unfortunately doesn't remember what setting I was in when it was switched off.

I must be one of the very few that likes the fake noise, gives it a v6 sound imo. IIRC mine would start in individual but I did toggle settings for the flaps. As I said I liked the fake sound and my settings were as per this thread;

Mine is on 1896 but has stored the last setting since I had it when it was on.....1790 or something like that. I use individual and it always starts with everything as it was when I switched off.

Lucky you, I wish mine did that. :) I guess they must have changed the behaviour from factory at some point.

How do you unplug the soundaktor? I don't have my car yet but when I do the first thing that I want to do is get rid of fake engine sounds.

I'm afraid this is the thing with the "individual" mode - I got mine in Eco and the gearbox displays E when I'm driving, but when I'm back in the car, it's D or S - the only way to go back is to cycle through all the modes. I believe car doesn't remember the settings (similar to sync in clima and other various options) and the only way to "load" them is to swith off and on the mode again. I've spoken to the dealership and they couldn't advise as "this can change anytime with the updates" and they don't know...................

If you press and hold the “Cupra” button it will switch straight to Cupra mode and if you press and hold the button again it will change back to whichever mode you were in before.

Yes but this doesn't get you to the individual mode Bear is using unfortunately. :)

I prefer to use individual mode as well, it's just a shame that you have to go through sport and Cupra mode first as it then switches the gearbox into S mode and you have to then switch it back to D.

I keep my car in individual mode and press and hold the Cupra button to switch between this and the Cupra mode on my VZ2 310ps.

Unfortunately mine reverts to comfort on every start so it doesn't work like that for me. I wish it would stay in individual as I'd be much happier.
