Tappets for a guess, an oil change with an engine flush usually sorts it. Wouldn't worry too much.

If you wanna hear bad ones go fire up an early 90's ford, like a bloody tractor even when the cars in tip top nick!

wow not as bad as that! I've had the exhaust adjusted and re-sealed yesterday - so it may've been that - when they hammered it forward a little - cos it had managed to vibrate itself backwards due to being a little loose! :) I'm led to believe it might be a leak in the D/P or the manifold.

BUMP!

Could you just briefly explain how to do an engine flush please :)... and what I need etc, appart from the usual oil-change suspects.

Thanks! :)

Not a lot really, you need:
Oil - semi synthetic (fully synth is too thin)
Engine flush - comes in a bottle from any motor factors with instructions
Sump Washer
Oil Filter
Big pot to catch it all in.

Warm the car up before you empty it as this will help the old oil to come out easier.

How ticky. Anything with valves makes some sort of tick. But a good engine flush will help if you've been doing lots of short journeys with the car and carboning up the oil. Make sure you follow the engine flush instructions to the line.

yeah I have done a lot of short journeys. It's a bit ticky, you can hear it from the inside of the car, ticks ever 10th of a second I'd say, in-keeping with the idling. When I rev it ticks faster, naturally.

Dunno if it's helpful or not, but the Toledo was 'ticking' right before the waterpump impeller fell off :(

Common fault on the Leons/Toledos though - don't know if yours will be the same pump

...and if it is the pump, you'll hear it from the bottom of the engine/belts rather than nr. the head
