i realized an issue with my 2.0tdi 140 when i switch the engine off it just shuts down instantly (like drops dead) when it use to gradually turn off. a guy on the Audi a3 forum managed to solve the issue on his by:

"i did pull out the black hose, tried to move the flap, which seems stuck, after that put the hose back on and the motor on the IMF made a loud ticking noise when i switched the engine on for few seconds, luckly i have warranty so had it replaced, now it shuts off smooth again,"

they mentioned something called IMF < i have no idea what that is.

any help would be much appreciated.

this is the link to the issue resolved.

Sounds like the anti shudder valve but that's designed to give you a smooth engine cut off. The engine is not supposed to run on.

over the weekend i took the car for a spin on dual carriage, after releasing alot of smoke the engine seemed to turn off properly. after EGR (clean/delete) and few other clean outs ill see if the issue remains if so i'll look more into changing valves etc.

thanks for the help :)
