Abs unit fault

Hi,car went in today to seat garage to be put on the machine as customer services said it needs to be a Network group to look at it and they said it will take a couple of days to get back to them,then they will phone me.Receptionist said they had a lot of these last year and probably would cover 70% for the part and 30 % for labour and said it would be about £380ish ive missed one service but he used to work for seat and has VAG group stamped on service book and only use original parts.

This thread has me worried so I did the natural thing - Googled!
This fault with the Teves unit is a MASSIVE problems affecting Mazdas, BMWs and Volvos as well as alll VAG cars.
It looks as though a small claims court procedure even if car is upto 6 years old and not VAG serviced should do the trick.

I just bought 2l of the VAG spec low viscosity brake fluid from SEAT dealer - £8.20 a litre. Not bad considering Dot5.1 from Halfords is £13 a litre.
Downside? Took me 15 mins to convince dealer parts manager that DOT wasn't good enough and there was a better VAG spec 501.14 oil! Unbelievable.
Ready to do after fitting R32 rear calipers

Labour souds cheap. Was the Teves unit replaced?

Only a couple of hours work to replace the hydraulic unit so could have been replaced. Good result none the less!
Even at £380 it is not too bad considering you used to have to replace the entire hydraulic unit which cost £1000

Having read this forum I took my car to Volksmaster in Oldham yesterday and they fixed the pump by replacing the master switch/sensor. All done and dusted in a couple of hours at a cost of £400 so well worth the drive from Hull

Hi all, newbie here.

On Monday the ESP light came on on the dash of my TFSi FR. As the car is still under warranty I booked it into the local dealer for today. They have told me that it needs a new ABS control unit - seems a bit serious! Apparently these are on back order from the factory and might take upwards of three weeks!

I have seen several posts regarding faulty sensors and blown fuses on Ibizas and Leons causing a similar fault. I'm considering getting a VAG-COM cable ...

Anyone else needed a new ABS unit?

yup, mine went 7 days before warrenty ended, i got the car booked in sharpish and it was replaced free of charge. My mate who has a Touran 2.0TDI DSG had same problem.

ESP fault

Hi,
Just bought a Seat Leon from the auction - risky I know!! Anyway on the way home the ESP light came on.... thought nothing of it until I saw the postings on google - OMG!! Contacted the dealer who asked us to bring it in for diagnostic test at £85!!! They also said the only good will they would show was if the car was bought from new, had under 65k on the clock and if it had all the stamps in - the car was an ex lease so it had all bar one of the stamps from a dealer but with 75k on the clock and 4 years 2 months old it was not likely!!

Found a independent garage in Huddersfield called IVS (Independent Volkswagen Specialist) - 07719 236609 and gave them a call this morning - they booked it in for diagnostic for £25. We got there (11am) and the dreaded fault was found. However he told us that there was a new piece of kit which could be bought and fitted for £350. We booked it in then and there and also had the MOT done. The total bill came to £370 (cheaper then expected) and the car was ready by 4pm.

Not exactly thrilled about paying for a known fault but knowing we would have a epic fight on our hands with Seat and knowing that we would have to prob pay something for the privilege of them ripping us off I would rather give my money to an independent garage.

Being a woman I am always concerned about mechanics ripping me off (sorry to the honest mechanics out there), however I would thoroughly recommend this garage

It does pay to shop around and for anyone with a little car knowledge apparently the part can be bought and replaced at home.

I've got the dreaed ESP light of hell on my Leon 56plate 2L Tdi. I bought it as an ex seat uk model, but only used the stealers whilst in warranty.

Took it to a mechanic I know well and he's said I need a new abs pump module (used VAG com leads), I've got a Bosch pump

I'm guessing i've got one of the dodgy units, but before I ask him to go ahead and replace mine, what should I do?

Read the SCC post from CrispDuck, is that the best way?
Should I Contact the stealer see what they say or go right for the jugular?

Any advice greatly received.

depends how soon you want the problem fixed?
If you've got time and energy, get all the facts together, go to stealer and start aguing. If they refuse to do anything then go to MJ and get it sorted for £300 and start proceedings for recovery of these costs?

MJ - thanks I'll keep the repair offer in mind, It would a pain without my motor for the repair time, but a definite option Cheers.

I've been looking on VW, skoda forums and have some useful tools.

To be honest I'm not expecting anything but being fobbed off, but at present I'm happy to be awkward as hell

Of course they won't admit to it.
You just have to keep hammering away. 5-6 years is not unreasonable to expect a non servicable part to last. Its a poor design and not fit for purpose.

MJ. My ESP light came on & stay on yesterday. Does driving with this fault cause more damage? i've got it booked in to local garage on wednesday. cheers

No it causes no other issues than deactivation on the ESP/tcs function.

Hi,

just bought a 2.0Tfsi Altea freetrack4, i noticed the ESP light was on all the time when I took it for a test drive. Garage sent it to SEAT in Preston to be looked at and they fitted a new ABS unit under warranty. No waiting, had the job done in a day.
Apparently this is a common issue and expensive if it happens out of warranty.
Just glad it is in warranty until December 2011.
Other than that it's a great drive and is surprisingly nippy and nimble.
