ESP (ABS) Fault

Yes i have the TCS, ABS and tyre pressure light all on but brakes are working fine. However it is due its MOT next week and i suspect it will fail because the dashboard is lit up like an Xmas tree.

There is no point in me even discussing this with my dealer. Apart from the car being 5 years old it has 106k miles on the clock since i bought it from new, i fell out with them a long time ago due to some very shoddy repair work and a complete lack of customer care.

Will try to replace the fuses to see if that works but i suspect not. Does aybody know if there is a garage/company in Scotland who will repair this or am i better off sending it away to somebody?

Update on my case --------------------------------------------------------

Rather than worry about dealers, I went straight to Seat UK with my ESP fault.
I've ended up with a 50% courtesy payment from Seat UK and a REPAIR KIT fix.

I'm driving a 56 plate Leon with 33K miles. I bought it with about 16months Seat warranty left from new and had it serviced by Seat during that time.
When the warranty ran out, I had it regularly serviced by a trusted independent garage using Seat parts.

The independent had already told me the G201 sensor was the fault, but Seat made me get my car diagnosed on their official kit. Suprise Suprise it showed the G201 sensor fault. Cost £30, but would've shown up other issues if there were any.

My argument was that the Tevez mk60 unit was a common failure across the VAG cars and that it was down to a design error that the unit failed. The fact it failed after 33k miles showed it wasn't capable of doing the job it was meant to.

The trade descriptions act has this little beauty

" Goods are of satisfactory quality if they reach the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking into account the price and any description."

I did mention this to Seat UK and they came back with the 50% offer :) - Although as previously typed, my motor had 33K when the unit failed, well below the average mileage for the age the car.

The Repair Kit I mentioned at the start of this post has these details

Part Number
1K0698517B

Description
Repair Kit

I've looked at the unit in situ and it looks brand new, it could well be a refurbished unit, but its got me sorted out.

The job included guided fault finding - brake system bleed, wheels removed and reinstalled (wtf).

It cost me £192 all in.

Not a bad result

Just got mine fixed today. 07 Leon 2.0Tdi FR ESP light came on a few weeks ago and after consulting these very good forums came to the conclusion that I have the dreaded G201 fault. Car currently has 58000 and 6 service stamps 4 x SEAT and the last 2 are from an independant.

Car was booked in to Hollis Motors Dover for diagnosis (SEAT won't speak to you otherwise) confirmed as G201 fault. Was offered 50% Parts & 50% Labour leaving me £217 to pay, I couldn't find a better deal even by sourcing the parts myself so accepted their offer.
I have to take my hat of to the dealers because when they diagnosed the fault they were happy for me to sit on it for a day to decide what to do and they did not charge me a penny. The bill I got was for parts and labour only so was well chuffed not to pick up a £75 or so diagnosis bill.

Car now back on the road just waiting for the next thing to go wrong as I have already had the injectors replaced (FOC) Faulty Exhaust Pressure sensor, Faulty Exhaust Temp sensor all in the last 12 months

Yes i have the TCS, ABS and tyre pressure light all on but brakes are working fine.

I have the same lights on my dashboard. The rear brake disks and pads were replaced (after the lights came on - they were overdue anyway) and I asked them to give the ABS sensor a visual check. Apparently this is a magnetic sensor and there is a metallic ring part of this which is heavily chipped (they reckoned a stone had got in there and mashed it up) on mine.

Stupidly, I never got them to print out the code reader results, but the receipt states that it was an abnormal ABS sensor reading from the passenger side rear - the fault initially occurred almost immediately after I filled up that tyre, so it would fit nicely.

Have read elsewhere that if there is more than the ESP light on then this is probably not the ABS pump fault - can anyone confirm?

I had this prob last Oct and sent my unit to BBA Reman to be repaired , it only cost £140 but was away for a week . Had more issues this month with what everyone at the local garages thought the abs unit was faulty again as all the usuall lights were on . After a week in the dealers I had 2 rear wheel bearings fitted which sorted the prob . Although it wasn't cheap at £500

That's interesting. The tyre place I took it in to said that they could only source the ring as part of a full replacement wheel bearing. Hopefully just the ring can be replaced, but I guess I'll just have to wait until it goes in on Tuesday to find out.

I replaced the bearing on the osr with an aftermarket one but apparently whilst on road test the osr was reading faster than the rest . This is a supposed prob with aftermarket parts . I didn't think you could buy the ring as its inside the actuall hub , not to sure though . Seat bearings were £140 each and then £70 per hour labour . And this fixed the prob .

Thanks for the info. Very much hoping that replacing the wheel bearing is the worst case scenario - wallet can't really take the hit of the ABS pump right now!

Both these lights are coming on for me but only when I get to a certain speed (50-60mph) and are off the next time I start the car.

Is this the same for everyone on here or are they on all the time?

Hoping it is something simple as some of the prices quoted in this thread I could do without just before christmas.

I've just (well, yesterday) taken the sensor off and give it a clean and it happens a lot less frequently now. It must be the sensor but I'm still reluctant to shell out 35 English for one as knowing my luck it will still be something else.

:(
I have to take my 06 Altea into the Mitsubishi main stealers this coming week for an MOT.
That is where I bought the Seat from with a 12 Month warranty.
There's just 2 weeks left on the warranty so I'm expecting them to 'Try it on' when they discover that it is an expensive repair.
As the warning lights only come on after a few miles I didn't think it was anything serious until I looked on here
Well if I've got to 'shell out, at least I can pay for the car tax with a monthly Direct Debit now to ease the pain just before Christmas!

Good reult.

Decided to take it in for a pre MOT check as I didn't want a page full of advisories and a fail cert so I told them the symptons and expected the worst.
It turned out to be the rear wheel sensor that was faulty and they ordered one and got on with replacing it, no problem.
They didn't like the HID headlights, said the illumination pattern was wrong for the MOT so they changed to the standard bulbs. They saved me the HID lamps for me to refit later.

Cost me about 75 beer tokens and a few hours work to get everything sorted, including buying new brake pads and the tool to rewind he caliper pistons.

A good result I thought. [B)]

First post!
I'm looking for some advice regarding this issue with the abs fault...
I'll start from the beginning, end of last year was driving in damp wet conditions as I came off a roundabout the wheels spun and that kicked up the three bleeps and the abs, traction control lights and the handbrake light flashing, I took the cupra for a vag check but when the computer was plugged in it couldn't connect to the abs module, ive also had this checked by another chap and he couldn't connect either, assuming it was the abs fault I got my local garage to take the module off and sent it to ecu repairers at heanor in Derbyshire. They Repaired it and retested it and sent it back, it was put back on the car to find it still had the same fault and couldn't connect, it was taken off again and retested and they still say there's nothing wrong with it...ive had all the electrics checked, wheel sensors checked and fuses etc and the garage says it must be the module. So before I go and purchase a new abs pump I was wondering if anyone else has had this or if its the abs pump should I have the pressure sensor fault? Its a 58 plate Leon cupra mk2.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers
