ESP question

Hi, this might sound like a stupid question - but how do I turn the ESP off in my seat ibiza cupra?

I recently bought the car and the previous owner showed me it worked (a light appeared on the clocks when he pushed the button) but whenever I press it - nothing happens?

I'm not overly interested in driving with it off, I'd just like to know if there is a certain way of deactivating it.

Thanks

Just press the button located next to the handbrake. No fancy way of doing!

Yeah that's what I thought. I thought it was a simple case of pressing the ESP button. But nothing actually happens when I do it. The light doesn't appear on the dash/clocks. That then led me to thinking if the car had to be stationary/clutch or brake pedal in.

Nope I can de-activate mine whilst driving along quite happily. Check the connector under the switch hasn't come loose if you're really bothered.

Are you pressing firmly until the button clicks?

Yeah, there is definitely a clicking noise when the button is pushed. I've also tried holding it down for a few seconds.

I think the next action will be to check the connections. I know it's not a massive deal - but it's always nice to know everything in the car works as it should.

So basically - the ESP should deactivate just by the push of the button, whilst driving or stationary?

Whoa! Check the switch first before ripping out the dash

Do you not need to remove the trim the button seats in to check the connections or can you just remove the button?

The previous owner of the car smoked - under the trim where the handbrake is, there is all sorts of filters, tobacco and such that need cleaning out, so I want to remove that trim anyway to get it clean

Well just came out to the car - tested the button, nothing happened. Gently levered the button out, pressed it and the light appeared on the dash. Put the button back in and it's working like it should now. Odd, but at least it's working now

If yours is anything like mine - and you're cleaning up around the handbrake - take care; I accidentally hoovered the TCS button up and had to go through the hoover bag to get it back. It seems once you've taken it off they can get a bit loose :thumbd:
