I've never checked mine! Will do from now on, impressive!!

My Liquid Gauge has told me the exhaust temp's reached 936c from time to time. It also has "Alarm 950c" on the display, but didn't get that high to see what the Alarm was (visual / audio or whatever) :( lol

I was sat in traffic on M62 on Monday morning and the steam coming off my bonnett, i thought the car was on fire lol, was tempted to get out and pop the bonnet to see WTF was going on. Only seemed to be right in the middle of the bonnet so im guessing there must be something very hot in that area of the engine........is this normal?

the screen flashes when the alarm goes off. you can change it with up and down on the joystick, mine is set to 980*c at the moment.

Would be interesting to get a temperature probe in there and get a true reading!

Yes this is normal, Mine steams like a mother trucker, its the exhaust manifold and also it does not take much heat to generate steam on a bonnet given the right conditions.
