I have fitted an AutoDAB and it works really well. I have the FM radio transmitter style one fitted into the space behind the panel in the ST boot with the aerial stuck on the rear window glass alongside the FM radio aerial.
The functions all work correctly, there is very little signal dropout although I agree an external aerial would be better but I dont think I really need one. The station display, scrolling info and signal strength all work perfectly in BOTH the radio display and the instrument display. I am very happy with this setup particularly as the aerial is not obscured by roadside trees etc. and is not visible on the windscreen. I took the switched power supply from the radio amp.
Big Vinny thanks very much. The options I am looking at are:
- best possible internal aerial option I can find - probably this
- short external aerial like this
- Shark fin mount - OEM, but will need painting etc and cost $$, and don't actually need the satnav etc so bit overkill.
Might look at the internal with with its buy and try option.
Thanks Caldi, that's my backup option right now. I don't have a problem with removing the interior trim, it's the drilling through the roof and water ingress I don't like!
The spare aerial on the drive side rear quarter is interesting though...
