Exeo Towing Capacity

Just got an Exeo ST SE Tech 2.0 143 CR TDI and the towing figures in the manual and Seat UK website are 1600kg. However on the V5 that recently arrived it says 1400kg.

I noticed that the Spanish Seat website gives 1400kg as the maximum, but every other website in Europe, Germany, Greece etc. says 1600kg.

Is it possible that Seat have supplied the wrong figures to all countries outside of Spain?

Is there anyone else with an ST 143 CR TDI that can post the towing capacity from their V5?

Hi, the figure for my 143 ST is 1600 Braked and 750 unbraked...Julian

Thanks Julian, is it possible for you to do me a big favour and read the weights from the VIN sticker on your car, its on the left hand side under the bonnet.

I think the weight on my car has been printed wrong on the VIN sticker as it says my maximum train weight is 3450kg and I believe it should actually read 3650kg.

My dealer is writing a letter for me as proof that the v5 figure is incorrect. I am going to send it back to the dvla and get the figure changed. I bought the car on the basis that it could tow 1600kg so was quite shocked to see 1400kg on the v5 when it arrived.

I wonder what the towing figure is for the CR 120? Is it possible that you have a CR120 and not CR143? It wouldn't be the first time that orders have got a little mixed up.

Definitely got a 143. It does appear that the max train weight is printed wrong on the VIN sticker. The dealer checked a car they had on demo of same spec and the v5 said 1600kg.

If anyone has a 143 CR TDI Exeo I would be very grateful for the maximum trainweight that is printed on the VIN plate under the bonnet.

Hi, sorry for delay, the figure on my Vin plate is 3650, hope this helps...Julian

Thanks that's a great help. It confirms that the figures printed on my Vin plate is wrong. Mine says 3450. I will now need to take it up with Seat UK as I require the Vin plate to be changed to the correct value.

Could it not have been reduced as policy, to bring it below the 3500kg limit for people who've got their licence since 19xx?

No the dealer that I got my car from also had another identical spec 143CR TDI ST SE Tech and the VIN plate on that shows 3650kg. It looks like my car has been mislabelled in the factory.

I almost bought a newer caravan last week but did not in the end cause on the web site it said the tow limit was 1400 kg and I needed to tow 1480kg

May have to look into this now as I really liked the van.

Just because a caravan has an MPTL (or whatever it's called) i.e. maximum loaded weight of X does not mean that you cannot pull it with a car with a lower limit. You must ensure that you don't load the caravan so that it exceeds the car's limit.

Talking of towing, how much have people paid for towbars etc?

I've been 'given' a small caravan, and need to work out the costs of getting a towbar fitted etc (inc electrics), just in case it's not worth keeping it, and if it's cheaper for me to just sell the caravan on !!!

i may be wrong ,but is it not illegal, to tow a trailer that weighs more than the towing car,ie the tail wags the dog.

No of course not. How do you explain a Range Rover towing a trailer with another Range Rover on it? I believe the maximum that non-commercial vehicles can tow is 3500kg (but the vehicle must be plated to do so, you can't just hook up a 3.5T trailer to a Saxo for example). Anything heavier than that requires air brakes.

towing

good point, i am going off when we had a caravan, told by dealer not to exeed 85% of tow car kerb weight,or insurance problems could follow in case of accident.
