Hi guys,

I've got a 1.4 CLS as some of you may know, the exhaust is totally standard and has started to blow and I'm looking to upgrade to a different backbox.

I want a stainless steel box, that is not super loud (and chavvy) but something with more of a sporty "rumble" :)....but I want to know if you have any suggestions on these, i.e. which makes to buy, standard, after market, universal, do i just need the backbox, do i need the other piping? etc.

I'm not looking for a full cat back system etc as I don't think there's any point on a 1.4.

Ive found this, could anyone tell me if theyre any good, is it the same fitting?

I know its a full system but I could just use the backbox....

thanks in advance

sorry about the url, im at college and theyve blocked every good website so i have to use proxy unblock websites :p

it looks pretty good....
but it comes with the decat pipe, would I need it or could I just use the box?
also is it something I could fit myself (with help from my uncle :p) or a mechanic job (is there welding invloved?)

Mk3 Ibiza Cupra standard exhausts are also a good option.... think there might be one in the For Sale section at the minute......

As soon as I saw the title of the thread that was going to be my suggestion.

I have a Mk3 Ibiza Cupra exhaust on my 1.4 and I love it. Nothing to chavvy or that, just a nice deep burble. Although that has got slightly louder/deeper since I fitted my cold air feed. Still really happy with it though as it still isnt too loud or chavvy.

thanks Craig, do you have the whole system or just the backbox....the system would be the same anyway right...unless its cat back i'm guessing

Just buy a universal fit cherry bomb exhaust nice and meaty sound out of one of those.

are universal exhausts any good? I've just heard that its better to get one made specially for the car....and universal ones require welding and stuff?

I have the whole system from cat back. Well middle box and backbox. Had to get abit of pipe made up with a reducer to connect it to the cat. Apart from that it was a straight fit.

Well I had to change the 2 rear mounts but that was nothing.

does it work ok mate and does your car perform as it should? its just that i was told it is a bigger bore exhaust so you would loose some back pressure. think he was talking bull!!

It would have lost some back pressure but I dont think that it would be that much. Ive had the exhaust on for over a year and havent had any problems with it at all. Had it on for one mot so far and it passed the emissions no problem.

I think the car breathes alot better with it on. It is alot more responsive with it on. I love the sound it gives off!! :funk:

Any exhausts other than one actually designed for that exact car will require work doing to get them to fit. The universal one will come with adaptors and stuff to fit it unlike if you buy a cupra exhaust.

You've swayed me enough to go for the mk3 cupra exhaust :D......I can't find any yet so will have to wait around and keep searching.... though the scorpion one i found is off a mk3, but i take it will probably be louder....

also could someone explain what catback is please, is it worth it on my car? cheers :)

That will just be surface rust, if you cleaned that off the stainless underneath will be fine, well it should be fine.

catback means you get the exshaust section from the catalitic converter backwards to the back of the car!

ok cheerss, what difference does it make then, better performance? it doesnt affect MOT's? i know that de-cat does, i thought it was something similar lol

stainless sytems are designed to last though arent they, they dont start blowing like my standard one is lol....or do they!? :|

i know someone whos quite handy with a welder , so i got myself a stateside cherry bomb for my 1.4 , they make a real nice noise but arent overly loud , and at 40 quid for the box and say 20 quid worth of welding at the most there pretty decent value as well
