This may be a silly question, but im wondering, with regards to exhausts, would there be a massive difference in performance after a remap if i only had a decat 2.5" downpipe as opposed to the downpipe/decat and a cat back??
Just ive seen this http://www.thsperformance.co.uk/product/Downpipe_Decat_for_1.9_TDi_Cars_THSTDDP-1 and it appears to be a fair bit cheaper then the milltek equivelant.

So, would it be more beneficial going with a full system inc. cat back, or would this be sufficient?

Cheers,

Mick

If your a derv.
Turbo Downpipe, Straight through pipe. No cat etc, just one long pipe.

If your a petrol,
Turbo Downpipe, New Cat, Catback system.

Better to go stainless all the way, and go Custom. Lifetime Guarentee!

If i were you i would go and get a custom made one, like i did.
It will be cheaper and you can spec whatever you want. I would go turbo back with no silencers or cat.
Then you can decide any size/shape tailpipe you want.

Agreed, Milteks are good but its about custom these days.
Same performance and sound/tailpipe of your choosing.

Don't get a Cat, I had it decatted on my Derv and then a day later the guy called me up and asked if I wanted a cat put on for free.

Regretted saying yes!

iv got booked into rebal power pipes for the exact same thing on my cupra tdi, Turbo Downpipe, Straight through pipe. No cat etc, just one long pipe and a tip which is similar to the standard cupra one.

all for £290max inc VAT :D:D:D (hopfully be a little bit less)

as for the sound, a wanted the rumblering/popping noise you get when the revs drop but a got told that you can't get diesels to make that sound, which i was gutted about becausr i love that sound :(

No you can't That popping is unburnt fuel and diesels are more efficient and not as combustible.

That price is good mate, almost too good!. Havnt seen any of there work so cant coment on the quality.

the owner of power pipes is a close friend of me best mates family. hes done loads of work on there cars and its all been top work plus i had a 2nd hand one on me old ibiza and it was great.

thanks for letting me know CJRamze, kind of makes when you look at it like that. didn't you have one on your old cupra tdi? what sort of sound was its?

I had a PD100 that went like the stink! 150BHP out of a 100bhp unit wasnt bad.
Mine with a straight through pipe was louder than standard but not too loud and grumbled a little at lower RPMS and turbo whistle was LOUD!

even for my 1.2? any idea on price? im having a cat back fitted for 268, i thought i might as well get the sports cat too?

That sounds awesome, I was just wondering if you got your exhaust before or after your re-map?? And what difference did you notice other than sound?

I have been trying to work out or not if it would be worth my while getting a milltek or maybe custom both would be turbo back-would there be any differences in performance ?

When I get round to a re-map on mine I was wondering if getting a new exhaust setup before hand would be money well spent....

It depends if your having a generic map or a custom one.
If you just get a generic map then having the exhaust fitted before or after wont make a difference but if your having a custom map put on the car then do all the other mods first.

And as for performance on a turbo car you want the least amount of back pressure so the straightest, largest diameter pipe will give you the most power in theory

as said by Ibiza Dan, it depends on what map your going to be getting.

the car had already been mapped when i bought it so i couldn't choose to do the exhaust before or after. i dont the exhaust fitted while the 19th feb so can't comment on the performance etc, but iv been told to expect the car to rev more freely, slight increase in power and for the turbo to kick in a little sooner

as for milteki haven't heard nothing but good things about there exhausts, i was going to go with one but custom was alot cheaper so went with that.

Cheers guys,

I've been looking at a few places in the North East-Darlington and Leeds that do custom exhausts. I was gona ask for some prices because it dose seem cheaper than a full Milltek system which would be an arm and a leg!

Anyone heard anything good mentioned about Darlington and Leeds-sorry don't know the names off top of me head.

To me it would be worth forking out if the turbo kicked in quicker even if it didnt add much more BHP.

i just had my FR tdi done on friday and remapped on saturday, had the cat removed and the back box removed, so its a striaght pipe with a nice oval tip on the end! sounds mental!!! and is really really loud!... but i luv it... adding a k&n induction kit made it even louder and i get a dump at about 2500 revs, sounds different

what size pipe have you got on your exhaust shazo? im getting a 2.5"striaght through, i asked for a 3" pipe but the guy said 2.5" will be more than enough and with 3"there wouldn't be any difference

Mines 2.5", i thought it was 3" when i got it but maybe not haha.
Sounds nice but not too loud. Because mine has a sport cat and two 90degree bends in it to get it to exit in the centre i think it is quiter than other "straight through" systems. But I like it alot.
