aha! i have the same issue, have you got yours replaced and how much did it cost? what are the consequences of not getting it replaced as im skint...

i thinking you mean the auxilery belt not a fan belt, as all cars use an electric fan now. From what i recall i got mine replaced when i had my timing belt change and i remember it was £15-20.

You seeing any cracks or any sort of wear and tear on yours?

If you're talking about the aux belt, it could be the tensioner. £60 parts and 5-10 mins to replace if it is.

The aux. belt or V belt as VAG say will squeak after a few years, they will have a glazed look on the inside off the belt due to slipping and the only cure is to change it. Easy to change yourself for about a tenner. Sometimes the tensioner will need changing as well. The timing belt is called a Toothed belt by VAG.

I had mine replaced a little while back under warranty. That solved the problem for about 10 months. But now its doing it again. Really bad when the engine is cold. I was going to try a bit of WD40 the weekend but sounds like that didn't work. Any other ideas are welcome

The only cure is to change the belt and to be sure change the tensioner as well.

WD40 is not a good idea IMO as from as far as i know, the WD40 will gradually degrade the rubber on the belt over time making this worse.

yeah changing the fanbelt and tensioner fixed my problem, sounds much nicer now :)

hello mate can you describe the noise and its habits. i'm trying to diagnose a strange sound from my car. kindof intermittent warbelling sound. like a cute fuzzy extra terrestrial animal would make.

all i can describe is a squeaking sound which sounds more mecanical than like an animal, i could hear it louder than the enginge. i only got it when i started my car from cold, after 10 minutes it was fine. if you upload a sound i can tell you if it sounds like it
