Farecla G3 compound?

just bought this product along with a farecla wax type thing..all in all came to £23 which i didnt think was too bad for what the guy said they are capable of...basically the g3 compound is a really heavy cutter/filler(not sure what one now lol)
and was recommended it by a friend that owns a coachworks......but i dont think im doing it right! because i can still see cobwebs and scratches on my bonnet where i tried it....

anyone of here ever used it and have any tips?
 
its a bit heavy to do by hand, are you trying to remove swirls and light scratching altogether ?? to be honest unless you want to invest in lots of different products and a rotary then you are probably best off paying for somebody to detail and correct the car. Be warned, its not cheap and you really paying for somebodys skill. Google polished bliss and see what i mean :)

Seriously would not use G3 with a polisher unless your quite experienced in bodywork. G3 is a heavy rubbing compound will eat the paint up quite quickly especially if you arent using it with water and arent meticulously checking results. From what i understand and have used it on is that after sanding you then use G3 to remove the sanding marks followed by finer compounds of G6 then G10 to polish scratches left by the G3.

I've used G10 on an old Mk2 Golf GTi (tornado red) to remove the white hazing of age, but this was fairly light compared to what you have there.

If you need paint restoration and you are not an experienced detailer (it's all a bit too much like hard work for me), then get a detailer to do it. For anything you do yourself, keep it to a minimum.

These days there are a trillion products and a trillion opinions, and no matter what you do someone will ALWAYS be telling you they know best, and you should be doing something else. Car cleaning has become a dark art science!

i got the machine in a box....with 2 covers to go over the bit that spins lol...one to work the g3 in, and one to polish it off which i think is made from lambs wool.

I think you've got a polisher from halfords or somewhere. Not a proper rotary polisher (think angle grinder but with a pad on instead of grinding disc). And it would probably make no impact whatsoever.

G3 is a very heavy cutting compound, and is used by bodyshops a lot, but its not really what you want for scratch/swirl removal

got it from autogear garry,i only bought it because i was told it took out heavy scratches and swirls, which my car has alot of:blink:

Has it got two handles kinda either side of a big central pad? And wasn't mega expensive? If so, it wont take swirls out. Its more for applying and buffing wax, than polish.

if you want to continue using it i would just do the worst bits gently by hand then go over with a medium then light polish otherwise or you will just make a mess and you do not want to break through the lacquer
