Fast Charging EV Race

Well I read today that Geeling unwrapped an ultra fast charging setup (using specialist batteries)

From 10% to 70% in 4.5 minutes,
From 10% to 97% in 8.40 seconds

Then BYD using Blade Batteries

From 10% to 97% in 9 minutes

There are other Chinese companies offering similar charging times but both Tesla and European companies currently are behind in this race.

Lots of questions outstanding about can the current charging infrastructure provide the power outputs needed and what impact these charging numbers have on longevity of the battery but it is defo a race to see who can get this time down to match filling a car with Petrol.

Charging speeds of that magnitude addresses what is probably one of the main reasons the EV naysayers give for not considering an EV. Battery range is probably another reason, but most EV’s have a pretty good range these days.

However, as you’ve said, ultra fast battery charging does raise questions about charging infrastructure and battery life.
