Hi All. I've recently noticed my 3rd brake light hasn't been working and when I used my OBD2 scanner it threw up the fault Code 11274 bulb (open or short to plus)

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what could be causing it and possible fixes. I'd rather not just go and by a new light fitment if obv that's isn't going to fix the issue.

I have a 64 plate Leon mk3 FR hatchback.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you have any cracking or water ingress around where the rear washer nozzle exits the 3rd high level brake light?

Water ingress due to the lens failing could be a cause for the short circuiting.

No worries - this was a thread that I responded to previously:

One of the bus bar terminals at the plug<>connection in the high level rear light in my wife's previous Polo, a 2002 model that still had a chain of filament bulbs, rotted through due to a very slight water leak. I just bought a new light fitting - then discovered that just doing that would not solve this problem, so I had to buy in a suitable 2-pin plug<>socket pair and create a flying lead from the new light fitting further along than at the intended connection points, I could have done the same with the original faulty light fitting - if only I had investigated what the root cause was before grabbing a new high level light fitting!
