Does anyone have any knowledge on the whereabouts the sensor is ? OR does anyone know if there is a maintenance manual written yet for the Altea.Thanks.

what is it for a start petrol or diesel???
if it diesel remove the air filter and down the side of the block looking in the engine bay from the fron of the car its on the right hand side with the connector facing backwards/sensor facing forwards, remove the clip and dont loose the o ring fit the new one and top up the coolant that you have lost.
do it when the engine is cold because 1 youll burn yourself and 2 youll looses more coolant!
clear the code and top up the system and bleed it..

I have an Altea 1.9Tdi (2005) which has been diagnosed by a dealer with the G62 fault. They want £99 for replacing the faulty sensor. The part number I've been given for my chassis is 06A 919 501 ( a 2pin grey/black sensor). My questions are:
  • Are the (German made) parts for sale on eBay good/adequate replacements for the original given that they are a third of the price charged by the dealer, i.e. £12 v £35?
  • Is it easy to fit this part?
  • Are there any post-fitting procedures apart from topping up lost coolant? i.e. specialist engine management resetting.
  • Apart from the advice to do the work "with cool engine", are there any other pre-requisites?

Have a problem with that sensor too.
Mechanic just replace it coz i had a hot engine start problems. He replaced twice and still nothing :)
Will replace it again tonight with original seat one - so will see.

btw its very easy job to do.:
just take engine cover and air filter out, then on your right hand side of engine is this sensor located.
u will loose a wee bit coolant but nothing serious so can be easy top up by water.

Cheers

My problem has been the amber ECS (Emission Control System) light intermittently coming on and going off. As I had been told that two of my glow plugs were not firing correctly, I opted to have all 4 glow plugs changed by the dealer (as I considered that job beyond me) and, if needed, to see if I could have a go at the coolant sensor myself. I've now ordered one on eBay but am not sure if it will come with the O ring and clip that I see in many item descriptions. I hope it is not going to be an ill-judged mistake.

Following my changing of the coolant sensor (£13 from eBay) it seems that the wiring and/or plug that is attached to the sensor itself is loose and/or damaged. I have established this by simply nudging the wires/connector and that makes the ECS light come on and go off.

Where could I get a replacement connector and can it be fitted easily? I don't know where the wires go to from the sensor. By the way my sensor was not located as described earlier in this thread. It is placed way down (and vertically) below the air filter to the left and front of the engine compartment. It was a bugger to get to after removing the air filter!
