Hi Guys,

I hope you're well,

Recently bought a 2014 Seat Leon 1.8 FR.

Only had it for around 2 months or so, and noticed a few slight issues. I've done a bit of googling and searching the forum but haven't found too much info about these issues.

Any light that can be shed on these would be really helpful.

1. Start/Stop Error Message. Driving the car at the weekend and it came up with A Start/Stop Error on the DIS I can't remember the exact wording of the message. But wondered if this is common, and anything else to look out for? Note, the Start/Stop seems to now be working again?

2. Heaters / Temp Gauge. This is a bit of a two part problem. Did about a 60-90 minute drive and the car never went about 1 bar on the heating (50 degrees?) and the fans all blew cold air. Got in the car the come back home, another 60-90 minute drive and the car heated up as normal (4 bars - 90 degrees) but then the gauge started to drop and alter between 1 and 3 bars, and blew cold air. The next day, car heated up as normal, blew warm-hot air as normal, but then the bars started to drop again to 1 - 2 bars, and then air continued to blow the warm - hot air.

3. Driving Mode Button. Check the video for this, but when selecting the Driving Mode button, sometimes nothing happens, the fact the button lights up surely means the physical button works. Also recently, i press the button as normal, and the 3 options came up on the screen, but wouldn't select when touching the screen. So again a bit of a strange one. Here is the link to the video -

4. Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. Recently had a nail in my tyre, so replaced the tyre, and all seems well, but the TPMS keeps alerting me every few days tyre pressures are low when they aren't. Assuming a dodgy sensor?

Any help on these would be super appreciated, could any be related, it seems weird that nearly all of this happened in the space of a days driving. They continue to be intermittent.

Thanks

My mode button doesn’t work if the engine isn’t on, couldn’t tell from the video of your car was started or not.

Tyre pressure monitor has to be reset after any change, that could be causing the message if you haven't done so.

That button is controlled by coding of the mib1 unit. could be a faulty mib unit or someone has fiddled with the coding.

do you have vcds ?

Thanks for the reply, yes this also happens when the engine is running occasionally

I had reset this after the new tyre had been put on, and after inflating them all to the correct PSI, it came on a few days after, so I checked the tyres and they were all still at the correct PSI, so no drop at all, but it continues to do this every couple of days after resetting?

We bought the car from SEAT Approved Used, so not too sure of the cars history, unfortunately I don't have VCDS, it would prove useful though.

SEAT Approved Used comes with 1 years warranty, no ?

I'd be on to the dealer in the first instance.
Hi Col,
I called them first thing today, but they have advised they will look at it, because there’s 4 issues they want £198 in Diagnostics labour charges which will be waived if SEAT approve the warranty claim, my issue is they’re intermittent. So don’t want them to take it, find nothing, me fork out £198 and then on the drive home off we go again.

I had the start stop problem along with the low temperature reading on the gauge and it was a sticking thermostat. It was initially diagnosed as a sensor fault which was replaced but the fault persisted and was finally sorted.

Thanks for the reply,
Did they accept that the car not heating up to 4 bars, and the fluctuating temp was enough for a warranty claim? It certainly sounds the most probable reason!

the only other thing I can suggest is wait until the car is due a service? I'm assuming you'll get it serviced at least once during the warranty period?

Mention the issues then. I can't see them charging the diagnostics fee on top of the service cost. The diagnostics check should be part of the service.

Yea it was the cause as I said they had already replaced a sensor. As a bonus they also replaced the water pump as well as they told me it was right beside the thermostat and is an awkward job. Free of charge under warranty.

That would make sense with the start stop being inactive as well. engine temp is one of the factors that will disable it along with low battery voltage etc. Would explain the temperamental lack of heating in the car too.
