First broken coil spring in 28 yrs of driving!!

I once got into my b6 a4 and had a spring snap as i sat down got out thinking what the feck was that and the whole car was leaning to one side and half the spring fell out from under the car, had to get a bit of old fence post wedged in there as a tempory replacement, definately wouldnt reccomend it lol made the ride a little bit harsh.

Mine was front offside aswell . It's a common fault apparently ? Mine cost 80 quid to do but only got 1 done. The engine Is heavier that side ? They say. Doesn't half rattle when it goes and lucky not to shread tyre!!!!

There was an Astra and a Polo there, both with broken front springs, when I picked my car up this afternoon. Glad to know it is not just Ibizas.

Metal fatigue + cheap metals. Cold weather can accelerate it.
And with the state of the countries roads who's surprised they're snapping springs?

I remember when I had an R reg Astra company car. It was 2 years old and had about 80k on the clock, I drove over a pot hole as I was pulling up to some traffic lights (nothing special just a regular UK pot hole) A part of one of my rear coil springs overtook me and bounced passed the red light into the junction in front of me. I've had a 60k service done on an 07 reg Astra and was told that both rear springs were broken and needed replacing. I used to get flashed a lot in that car, I guess the back was sitting a bit low due to the broken springs, making the headlights aim too high.

They don't make springs like they used to.
