Me and the father in law tackled it on the drive, was a real pain to seperate the shock absorber at the bottom from the car, i wouldn't do it a again tho

I presume then you didin't disconnect the drive shaft which is why it was a pain. I've never had to split the drive shaft with any other cars and if I could get away without doing so then I would. Were any special tools needed other than the spring compressor ?

Steve , what makes you think you have to touch the drive shaft?
doesnt the strut just go into the front hub?

It seems that to get the front suspension to drop enought to remove the strut you need to disconnect the driveshaft, remove the calipers and sisconnect the bottom ball joint. I had a quick look at a how to on the Votex forum, its not difficult but i'm not sure its worth the hassel. I've never had to remove a driveshaft on any other car that i've dropped the suspension on.

i lowered my mk 2 fabia myself with two bmw mechanics. (very handy people to have as friends!) we did the rear springs in 2 mins. but the fronts wouldnt compress enough to actually be removed. took to skoda who said they had a special tool to get them off.

had a look the other day at how easy the leon would be, but the set up looks pretty similar. cost me 60 quid for skoda to do just the fronts.

Hopefully fitting my eibach sportlines this weekend, spoke to a customer of mine (Vag specialist) who says it's a pita to get the strut out of the hub by undoing the big single bolt, they seize in. He says caliper off, ball joint off, undo driveshaft and any cables, hoses etc and top mount. Normal spring compressors do the job. If anyones interested i'll do some pics as I do it?
