Fitting new horns on Altea

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone could tell me how big a job it is to fit new horns on an Altea?

I'm looking at replacing the horns on my car with something like these twin air horns, as I don't particularly like the horn that my Altea has at the moment (a bit quiet and high pitched imho).

Is this something that an owner could be expected to fit or is it a job for the garage? If I fitted it myself, would/could I be invalidating the warranty?

Thanks!
:)

The others are right to have ignored this thread

Should be an easy DIY job. Only two problems you'll have are finding room for those horns, and working out which wire is which after cutting the plug off the Altea so you can wire them up.

Provided they (you) don't cause any electrical problems elsewhere your warranty should remain unaffected ;)

Hi,
one of our members reported , that in his Altea (built 11/2005) the horn was broke and he went for an exchange to the garage ... where the dealer told him, that SEAT had fitted two different brands, one was manufactured by Bosch, and the other, the one that guy had, by another company (can't remember).
Now only the Bosch horn had a double tone ... the other one just a single squiel :(

It a pity, that within this board noone seems to be interested in mentioning details about his car, so it's sometimes pure guesswork, whether the parts or the accessories requested will be proper and meant especially for that car or not ... so maybe yours is of that "early" series, where horns had only one single tone.

Nevertheless, I can provide you with a sheet where the horn can be found and what to unmount to reach it ...

Good luck ... Klaus

EDIT:
here's maybe a goodie for you: the sound of the Altea horn ... :D

Hi

My 2007 Altea SE has a nasty sounding single tone horn and i am very interested in changing it!!.

It seams that only the FR or 20Tdi Sport models get the two tone horn as my previous Ref Sport and my SE which is based on a Stylance has only the single tone horn.

TIIEWL why do you think everyone was right to ignore this thread do you think Seat owners shouldnt modify their cars.?
