Has anyone ever encountered the lacquer flaking off there LCR alloys? I’ve search but not found anything useful…

The area which is flaking is on the back of the spokes on the leading edges, the surface is lifting up in big flakes and there is a very small amount of bubbling too.

This is only really effecting one wheel badly, I have always washed the car myself using Autoglym products and never left the wheel cleaner on for very long to avoid any damage to the alloys but recently 2 other people have washed it, Tesco handwash and a VW dealership. I don’t know what Tesco used but VW used an aluminium cleaner which made the rear calipers go pink, all the wheel nut covers go white, the black curved bits above the rear discs go grey and left a rusty residue on the exhaust. They have rectified these problem by spraying something or other on the parts but the alloys are still flaking.

I am just trying to discover the possible cause of this and how to fix it. Looks like I may have to get them re-sprayed at my expense, but I’m hoping it is someone else’s fault so they can fix it.

Also, are the alloys cover by the SEAT paint warranty…?

Mine are on thier way out as well. I can see that the quality of the SEAT paint is not the best so will be looking to get them re-furbed soonish anyway.
Mine is a 53 plate as well... fu*k me!!

they've probably used a very acid based cleaner on your wheels to clean them, thats what has turned your rear calipers pink and all that other stuff too. have you also looked on your front calipers to see if the lacquer has been affected at all? the last owner of my LCR wasn't very careful either and my rear calipers go pink too. i go over them with autoglym paint restorer and it brings them up very nicely........... its a pain in the arse to do though!

Owners on here have had the same problems without ever using aggressive wheel cleaners, it just seems to be a "feature" of the components.
