I've only recently started driving it in manual, D was good enough just for pottering about town but anything other than that and its straight into manual... the S mode is crap and the noise I get when driving in it is hideous, sounds as though my car wants to throw up - manual is obviously much more responsive anyway but does anyone else's seem to take a second or two after the number changes on the dash before the engine actually responds?

mainly from 1st to second i notice a hesitation in the gear change the rest are ok and pretty bang on but not as quick as the 6 speed dsg changes in the golf.

i really hope someone comes up with a way of disabling the kickdown in the manual mode

That should, in theory, be quite simple, it'll be a wire or two from the kickdown switch to the ECU, so just cut into one of the wires and install a switch to turn it on/off?

The kickdown hasnt bothered me thats even flooring it low speed 4/5 gear in manual hasnt dropped down a gear unless you push the pedal past full throttle and into the kickdown section, when your sat in the car before starting, push down gently on the pedal until it stops, thats full throttle, but you can with a little bit of force, push down more and it's like a switch that is the kickdown.

The number changes slightly before the gear does. Wouldnt go so far as a second or two though- its exactly just long enough for you to notice(tenths of a second?) but its still quicker than a normal manual though!

easier said than done...

iam sure with some of the older 6-speed dsg box's tunes have created new ecu updates for the box and disabled it in paddle mode. i reckon theres a demand for it, so not quite sure why its not happend yet

Uprated gearbox mount mate. Stiffens it up more so you don't get that horrible shaking feeling from the increased torque after remapping.

It removed the loss of energy when clutch engages. Normally the gear box mount takes the "BANG" out of the clutch engaging, with this mount that energy is no longer lost and the clutch connects and the power can be used quicker as there is no movement.

My car has been Revo a few times and they even said it feels so much nicer.

At the moment I think it is the best £ for £ mod. But you only notice it if you drive to the higher rev range.

does sound promising, whats involved?

How much was it Phil? I hate the kick down even in manual if your doing a 3rd gear roll and floor it, it will hesitate then kick down into 2nd just to change instantly back into 3rd! Pretty sure Revo have a dsg map out that sorts this? May be wrong..

Dont think the 6speed changes quicker having driven a 6dsg in a golf gti. Thought the general rule of thumb with dsg was that the more torqe a box can handle, the slower gear changes will be. Eg ours is 9ms where in the lambo murchilago excuse spelling is around 40ms

I am referring specifically to manual mode. I tested the GTi and seriously noticed a HUGE difference between the two. I could be wrong and maybe my dsg aint right but the golf was defo smoother and quicker for me. Tilley the dog bone is cheap mate, speak to AWESOMA AL at Awesone GTI. I think I paid like 30 quid for mine.

Think mine was about £40, + fitting I had it done with a load of other bits.

You might need a press to get it into the dogbone, I have done it on all my cars and even made my own on my old VRS.

I get it all the way through the gear range, press paddle, number changes instantly, the revs stay high for a good second and a half at least then drop - no-one else getting that?

I've noticed that too and I haven't quite managed to put my finger on what conditions cause it. One thing I haven't tried yet is to simulate a manual car approaching a corner in 6th, braking and shifting straight to 2nd for a 90 degree turn say. With DSG I guess you would have to make 5 quick pulls on the '-' paddle. It's the kind of thing you see F1 drivers doing. How does the gearbox cope with that? Does it go down through the gears one at a time, blipping all the way?

I'll try it myself but I'm wondering what others have seen

Gearbox doesn't blip - that's the point of a dual clutch. But if you're going to drop to 2nd (which is nothing more than a pulling away gear) then yes, you'd have to pull the paddles for each.

In reality, you're better off letting the box do the downshifting as you brake more & then use the torque & low end power to pull away rather than dropping as low.

OK so if I am in M mode and 7th gear and I approach a 90 degree corner so brake hard down to say 15mph - if I don't change gear will the gearboxes brain take over and drop it into 2nd or will it labour in 7th (and probably break :p)

I'm going out for a drive soon so I'll give it a go but I'm just wondering.....

If you're in 7th and you need to get to 15mph it'll drop to 3rd automatically. It won't leave it in 7th.

Then accelerate out, changing up as you want (or let the box do it)

My current car is automated manual and it auto drops gear when slowing down. DSG will do it as well! It doesn't just leave you stranded in a high gear. xD

The DSG in the ibiza allows allot more control in the manual mode then other Auto's i have drove, inc new merc's & bmw's etc... e.g. if iam in a high gear and its lugging the engine, unless i either stupidly flaw it, it will carry on lugging the engine untill i do something about it

Which i like, i mean if iam putting it in M Mode iam doing it for a reason
