flat paint

Evening all.

So, I've traded the leon in after 2 years. Pick up my new car tomorrow, a Volvo v40 r-design in rebel blue. Go for it, make all the old man jokes you like, I'm not fussed, it's a frickin nice car!

Anyhoo, this will be the first car I've had that doesn't have metallic paint. So, what polish and wax combination would you guys recommend to keep it looking good?

Btw, I'm asking on here because I'm assuming the volvo types on their forum won't wash their own car, more likely to pay a fiver at a petrol station every Sunday on their way to the garden centre.

Any good polish with fillers and wax topped off with a good sealant will see a lovely, watery, deep shine.
I use cherry glaze (only 4 or 5 times a year) and top that up with Project 32 sealant (spray on, wipe and wipe straight off) that will see you right.
These are available from Autobrite Direct http://www.autobritedirect.co.uk but there are obviously loads of other manufacturers. You can go mental with cleaning stuff (trust me, I have spent around £1K in the last 18 months!) but the above would be adequate, far better than going to your local wash & scratch.

Cheers dude, ive got a big box full of valeting products myself, just nothing specific for non metallic paint. I like dodo juice profucts, had good results with them in the past, not sure which one would be best for this type of paint. The guy behind madcow recommended one of his own (obviously) his stuff's good, but i reckon there must be better stuff out there for the same money. I'll make do with what I've got just now, then spring for a full professional valet and detail in the spring......

De tar, de iron, clay e.t.c, sealant like auto finesse tough coat is really easy to use, then add a wax on top for that little bit extra,

Put a glaze on to hide swirls before the sealant unless u have a da lol

Think i should clarify though (and not being cheeky, i really appreciate the input) I'm hip to how to valet and detail etc, just wondering if there are specific waxes and polishes that will make the paint look even better, just cos it's a kinda weird not really matte/almost pastel paint colour. Like dodo juice blue velvet is designed for darker colours, was looking for those kinda recommendations.

Don't believe the hype with colour charged waxes, some are tinted a different colour but I could never see a difference

I stick with synthetic waxes for my flat white, I would say for flat blue exactly the same, IMO

You'll be fine with the products that you've used in the past. It sounds like you're a CCE so just carry on as you have done before.

Had no issues with them mate, none at all. The only lights left on the car, apart from the headlights, which are Xenons are my fog lights and the only issues I have now are an occasional one showing as front sidelight which resets by switching lights on and off. Mind you, I've had a few wasted purchases to get to where I am with what I've got bulb wise, canbus error free my arse is my general opinion with most bulbs for sale.

I've put more a few sets in the bin as well, current ones I have (sidelights) error when first switched on but goes out itself in a few seconds, have led fogs as well but managed to get them right first time

Once told a gay guy in my work i was obsessed with beading, his face lit up. Dunno what he thought i meant.......

Hahaha, just offer to clean the shiny surfaces in the house to help her clean. I wax my kitchen twice a year, it comes up mint!

Bugger that. I drive her everywhere, walk the dog, empty the bins and fetch stuff off high shelves in asda (I'm big, she's wee). Oh, and i give her good lovin.
