Has anyone changed their normal key to a newer flip key? Ive got a Leon flip key and I was wondering If anyone had attempted it before and had any tips?

Can make the car run with transponder, but no one got it successfully sync'd with the Alarm.

OllieL had a flip key, but never got alarm working :(

loadsa threads on this.

Door unlocks etc can be programmed to a new key, following the handbook, a couple of presses of the buttons etc, but to get the wireless immob bit you'll need the internals or your old key. Doable i believe, have a hunt round on here

I'd also like to do this. If I were to buy a flip key, are the internals in a flip key circuit board the same shape as the ones found on the normal worm keys? I.e - is it just a case of swapping all the internals over? It's not that simple is it?

Different shape internals, and different frequency on flip keys are what hindered people previously ;)

You need a specific age of flip key and to match the transmission frequencies of the key your going from to the one your going too.

Think the early two button flip keys for the MK4 golf can be reprogrammed but anything with boot release etc from later cars is a defimite no.

I wouldn't be looking into anything with a boot release personally anyway... I'd be more than happy with a snazzy flip key! Could be right there, Paul - first Mk4s were introduced in... '98-'99? Did they have flip keys though?

I know they did in 99 and 00 as I've driven two golfs with them, think Audi may have had them a little earlier.

Also driven a MK2 toledo with one.

You need one like this, the important part is the frequency the key transmits at.

If the ibiza is 433mhz like the golf then you can do it. But you'll need to move your transponder chip over for the immobiliser and get the key cut.

Just noticed the 433mhz on the side of my key, may have a cheeky bid :)

As for immob etc. I use a separate (Scorpion) fob to open close car / cancel my immobiliser... Gayest thing on the car! But anyway, does this change anything?

Thanks btw Paul! :)
