FMIC for Leon

been looking at the intercooler on the Forge site for the MK1 Leon Cupra (2001) and its a twin pass right? both end tanks at one side

have always read that there is a pressure drop with twin pass FMIC's

do any other well known companies do FMIC for the Leon Cupra which are single pass?

There's a pressure drop on all IC's full stop

This is minimal on Forge's twin pass setup. but you have to make sacrifices if you don't want to chop much car up

true... but have read on countless posts it is more of a drop on a twin pass setup rather than a single pass

'some' twin pass systems

It's minimal on the forge one (that I've measured)

Lesser designs have a bigger p-loss (and some single pass ones are worse still)

ok thanks

As you have measured it, what are the differences in pressure drop between the single pass and twin pass?

just be interesting to know:)

different cars, different setups - so not a valid comparison to be honest.

Don't be blinkered by the design and look at air flow, cooling performance, p-loss (all of which are more important than whether it's single or twin pass)

where are you looking to end powerwise?

i had the forge fmic which was fine whilst running at stage 1. no noticable difference cept power held better. fitted well and looked the business.

when i went bt the forge became the bottle neck and was swopped to an alloy designs fmic. that went in one and out the other. so yes alloy designs do one. i didnt fit it tho so couldnt say how easy. both coolers i guess rob a little pressure but nothing that i could feel.

The forge one is fine to flow to about 300bhp anyway... but we're not far off testing it with the GT28RS... copes no problem with revo stage 2, virtually maxxed out.

might have changed to pro alloy!

ring nick at jabbasport and he can give you the model. mk4 golf i think. but ask him mate as it could have been built custom. he can also tell you how easy/hard to fit.

this was rushed though during the bt conversion so i didnt get that involved.

be realistic about the power. 270/280 might be ok with the forge. thats where the bt started to work very hard to push the air through. mind you thats a very different turbo to the k03/4 so this could all be pants!

sorry i really do try not to be useless!
good luck with it

ihi vf 22 i think i have. had to run it hard to get 300. 1.6 bar i think. so switched and 1.1 bar is getting me 320. who knows? different turbo?

checked for leaks and forge tested it to 32 psi iirc. no leaks.. ran fine.

saul bought it off me and ive heard nothing so im sure its running well.

be intresting to see what the gt28rs can find.
there must be a limit to the amount of air you can get around a set of pipes.

id rate the forge to about 280 imo. i wonder if bigger pipes would get better flow rates

it's all within a few percent anyway... I'm not really too worried about it either way

If Bill can get 320ish from the crapola SMIC the ibiza came with, I can't see why this would be worse with it's bigger dia pipe route & better core.

who know;s

and ihi dont like high boost anyway. im sure the gt has more to play with.

no figures or anything but the smic seemed a straighter pipe route than the fmic..and i think that was the issue.
anyways the new fmic`s pipes look bigger as well as straighter. perhaps that would also improve the forges performance. maybe bigger is better even tho im assured by the missus it makes no difference;)

are we talking about your car mork? sounds very nice.

Jonah's car... (LC, GTRS etc) so nearly nearly done - but it'll be a nicely finished job, just wish the time was there to complete.

If it's restricted then a single pass one can be sourced and fitted with a manifold swap (otherwise you're can be just in the same boat with long pipeworrk I guess)

more high powerd lcs! excellent.

best of luck with it.

dpj should go bt. yours is the car that actually looks like it goes fast:D

:roflmao: It does though Pat!

I'm heading towards a GT28RS eliminator - got the ATP manifold in already. Capable FMIC next. I say heading towards, If I don't get the house sold for the move to France, I won't be able to resist the temptation....
