As standard the FR TDI comes with a SMIC, only the cupra comes with a FMIC. The seat sport or forge intercoolers are very popular options on these engines though.

For power it's all about the Forge or Seat Sport FMIC, as costly as they are they're a worthwhile mod if mapped!

LOL you couldnt be more wrong.

The SEAT Sport cooler is crap for running any sort of power.

Ive blown 2 SEAT Sport cores, as have a few others running decent power.

The original Forge cooler wasnt particularly great either. The new one should be alright though.

Only way to get a really good setup, good for big power is to go completely custom.

Plenty of people on here running good power on the seat sport cooler! Nothing wrong with it IMO. Yeah go custom if your looking at 400bhp plus

Fine I'm wrong then! They must be good because plenty of people run them!

This is problem with forums. Idiots dishing out **** advice based on what they dont actually know.

I blew 2 cores running 220bhp at 1.8 bar boost, as have at least 3 others.

Diesels will run slighty higher boost so probs the reason why, but there aint many options but neither the forge or SS IC's look that good for big power.

The SS IC isn't a bad cooler to say it comes as a standard part. It all comes down to what sort of power you want to run and what pressure your puttin through them.
Size wise I think they're deceiving too, this is the only pic I could find of mine from a bit back

On a standard turbo setup up you generally Be ok, however Tom's point about them not being suitable for big power is spot on alot of hybrid turbo's petrol and diesel do go custom as the ss and forge do have a tendency if blowing cores. The 7 big power (245bhp and above) Ibizas that I know of on here have all gone custom

Tapatalked on a Xperia Arc S

Mounted Seat Sport FMIC and in sumer days there is a diference because you dont loose so mutch power because of hotnes

I never said you were wrong Tom at the end of the day it all comes down to how much power he is planning to run it on. It was you who quoted knuckles saying he couldn't be more wrong. I'm sure there's alot more people on here than the ones you have mentioned running reasonable power on the ss front mount with no problems. That's another problem with forums too, people getting brave sat behind a pc calling others idiots! Wind your neck in!

The "new" Forge one on my car has been fine (running around 220bhp), I've got no comment on other setup's as I've not used them, just went from the poor SMIC to the Forge one, the dyno runs that Forge did show a nice drop in temps though which was really needed due to the stage 1 map.

I'm certainly no keyboard warrior. Other who have met me will confirm I'd be just a blunt in person. I apologise for the way I come across though. Just frustrates me seeing people buy crap and waste their money like I have on stuff that's not as good as its made out to be.

The new forge cooler works well because ta effectively the SEAT Sport cooler with the issue resolved (end tanks welded). It comes at extra cost to the SS cooler but well worth it if you want a bolt on solution. Just a shame they were greedy and wouldn't sell the cooler alone for those who already had a pipe kit for the SS cooler. That's just forge all over though.

The SS cooler is perfectly good for running big power.

As long as you don;t need to run big boost to get it

The SS cooler isn;t really even engineered for a standard Cupra TDi for longevity.

If you run a mapped Cupra, then at some point, your cooler will be leaking. And I'm not talking 100ks miles, I'm talking 10ks.

Like Tom says, the new forge cooler will be perfect. I run almost the exact same cooler as the forge one, but had it made by an intercooler manufacturer at a much much lower cost.

If I was starting with an FR, I'd probably go for a custom single pass cooler.

So you guys with the diesel coops see problems due to high boost levels. Don't think petrols will ever see this issue as even with big turbo conversions you don't need to see much more than 1.5 bar of boost

That's enough for it to leak IMO. But it'll just take longer for it to start
