Not a great idea on the Leon. The scuttle/ bonnet lets in enought water as it is. Getting water in the coil pack harness could lead to catastrophic failure :( water also gets down the coil pack / plug hole causing the coil pack to scale up
 
If your fitting these in regards to removing under bonnet temps then they need to be facing backwards and as close to the front and as wide as possible for optimal cooling effect. Being backwards water ingress *shouldn't* be a massive problem. Especially if they're sat directly over the coils.

Lol! Cotton or a foam filter will sort that. Then it'll be filtered by your cone. Maybe don't have it right on top of the air filter?
 
Mine arent for getting cold air in. I have an air feed for that. Its for getting the hot air out

And very little water gets in the vents. Water on the bonnet runs around them and off the bonnet like it always would. So the only water that can get in is rain drops that fall directly in the vent holes
