Fog Lights not working...?

Before I phone Seat and ask them to look at this, I thought I'd ask here in case I'm being a bit special.

My fog lights don't seem to be working. With the main lights on I'm pulling the headlamp switch out and the fog light lights on the switch illuminate... but they don't turn on, not the front or rear.

I know the front lights work as the 'coming home' function works just fine. But they don't react to the switch.

I'm sure there isn't, but is there anything I'm missing here? I've even read the manual...

 sorry - you wouldn't be the first or last i fear ;) you wouldn't believe how many mk2 owners don't realise they have 4 side lights when the engines running

sounds like the switch is working 'sort of' and they work coming home but dodgy switch or check the main fuses I would guess

I'm sure I wouldn't :cartman:

Since it's a company car I'll just give Seat a call and make it their problem I think. I just wanted to avoid that awkward moment where you report a problem, only to find out there is a simple switch or option somewhere...

Thanks very much :)

I did exactly the same in fact, I just assumed and I'm not actually sure what prompted me to check...?

There's no F in Quality..
Right, remembered to check this morning, and I can confirm that both front and rear foglights are working, with a simple pull of the switch (1st pull = fronts, 2nd pull = rears).

This works both with and without the 'coming-home' function enabled.

Guess you've got a dodgy switch Rob......

Interesting this.... I have a problem with my headlamp switch illumination, with the "AUTO" position not illuminating in yellow as it should, which I did ask for help on the site a couple of weeks ago... anyway, it is booked in for next Saturday, weather permitting for a new switch...

So, today I decided to see if my fog lamps worked... pulled the switch out once, then twice, nothing, no fog lamps.... tried with side lights, headlamps, on auto, nothing....

Moved the switch in and out a few times, and rotated it.... guess what... yellow "AUTO" light now back on... full illumination... and, fog lamps working :)

I think I have a fault contact inside the switch... all working OK now, but I will still see if the dealer will fit a new switch, as I suspect it may play up again...

That's interesting, since I was the only person to reply to your thread with the same problem. It will be interesting to see if both problems for both our cars are cured with a replacement switch.

Mine goes into Seat soon so I'll report back :)

Interesting indeed ;)

We seem to have exactly the same problem, no AUTO lamp, or fog lamps... seems as though by messing with my switch, rotating and pulling in and out a few times has cured mine... I am going to speak to the dealer Monday.. it looks like a dodgy contact in the switch to me... maybe a faulty batch of switches... when did you get your car? was it built early September this year? if so it could be a bad batch

I will keep you informed...

I'm not sure of the build date, but it was ordered at the end of Oct and delivered within 6 weeks, so a touch later than yours.

Little update... went to go out this morning, "AUTO" light off again, no fog lamps :( played with switch like yesterday.. nothing...

Try this... if your lights are on, because the "AUTO function has switched them on... try to turn them off by moving the switch to OFF... mine stay on...

When the lights are off.... turn the side lights on... mine work ok... turn to headlamps.... work ok... try main beam.... nothing, but flash works.. this may be because it is daylight...

Now turn the switch back to side lights.... my headlamps stay on until you turn it to AUTO...

Fogs still do not work.. :)

Seems like the switch is well and true faulty.. :)

Get to the dealer next Saturday for a switch
