Footwell lighting fitting guide

Last question (for now), What spec LED's have you got? (size, mcd, amount) and where from?

I went for these:

However I was looking for some frosted 12v capable LEDs, as i think it would produce a more subtle/diffused light. I could have easily wired in a resistor but I couldnt be bothered. At least these LEDs work straight out the box and are cheap as chips.

they are pretty bright ones arent they? being 20,000MCD

Pretty bright but not so bright that they look odd. i've dealt with higher intesity LEDs before and these are fine.

I'm wiring in four to start off with and if they are too bright i'll just change the LEDs for some low wattage bulbs.

Sweet, I was browsing the bay earlier and you can buy replacement bulbs that would usually go in the interior light, but they are made up of LED's so would be so simple to do.

I had a thought earlier, you could use the same method to make some 'puddle' lights, lights that go in the bottom of the doorcards and light up the ground when you open the door

not bad, the only trouble with a filament bulb is you get a horrible orange colour. LEDs give purer light are smaller (easier to hide) and last longer.

The end result WILL look good. Welcome to the footwell lighting club

i didn't want to go bright white, because i wanted to keep an OEM feel. i'll see what these are like, and if i dont like them i will change the bulb to a whiter one once they arrive i'll get them fitted. other things first though!

I'd use red LEDs but i would want 2 or three in each foot well so it give it a better equal coverage. Can you run this in series??

Sorry to be bringing this thread upp again. I just had a couple of qu's reguarding the footwell lighting.

From what I understand, there is no way to light up a set of footwell LEDs to come on both when doors are opened as well as when the interior light is manually flicked on right? So would I need to run two separate sets of LEDs, i.e. in the footwells to come on when the doors open, and beneath the central console/glove compartment when I activally switch the interior light on?

Also, would it be better getting an LED light strip like these > http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/lightstrips-tape-flex-leds-strips-c-104_105.html

or connect 3 or 4 single LEDs in a series?

Yes you can wire the LED strip so that they come on when the door is opened and when the interior light is turned on manually. u just need to take your interior light out and solder some wire to the two relevant terminals and then runn it down the A pillar, then branch it off into two sets of wires, one for each footwell

If you follow the guide, this will make the footwell lights come on when the interior light is 'flicked on'

Wouldn't use a series connection...
