Formentor Resonator removal

So looking at progressive parts they now sell a resonator delete kit so by that I assume the Formentor has a middle resonator. I've not seen the exhaust system on the Formentor yet but wondering if anyone has had to oppotunity to get theirs removed with any kit?

Any before and after of the sound would be pretty cool if so

I believe Formentor system is similar to Golf R. There's a discussion on mentioned FB group.

I will consider it after driving the car for a bit and confirming with insurance how much they will charge for declaring this modification.

Don't suppose you could post/PM the link to the FB video or the page link please? Having trouble finding said video on the pages I can find

My insurance let me do non-performance changes to the exhaust for free, if they are cheap again for when my formentor arrives I will probably be getting the res removed. Made a nice difference on my leon cupra, imagine the formentor is the same due to gpf

What will the benefit of removing this?
The GPF on new cars muffles the sound quite a bit, removing the middle resonator gets it closer to pre-gpf. Louder pops and shifts though usually not as good as before. Lookup leon cupra my19 before and after res delete for instance

I run test insurance quotes to see if there's any difference for exhaust modification and looks like Admiral doesn't charge extra for this. I will call them later to confirm, just to be sure. If that's correct or fee is low, I will proceed with resonator delete.

Cupra mode + straight pipe should make this car sounds better.

I am with Admiral so I would like to know this too Agnes, if you can report back?

I also had an email back from ALD (finance company for the car) regarding any modifications (including the res delete). They advised that they are OK with this and any other modifications as long as the car goes back to stock and is not left with any damage. (y)

It is indeed free with Admiral. It took 10 minutes for guy to understand and find the modification on the list. In the end he said, that I don't have to tell them about it, but he made a note on my account, that I informed them about it. So to be on safe side, just tell them about it online.

I will order the part and book car into the garage. It should be quick one. Already got recommended garage in Surrey.

I won't be asking VWFS about modification, I will just remove it before returning the car.

I highly doubt they will check under the car when its returned, but still be careful as when the resonator delete is reversed, they will either clamp over the cut, or weld it. This will be visible if they check.

Please do post a video of the result (bonus points for before & after clips!) if you get the chance.

Sure. As soon as I get the part, I will book with the garage. So it may take up to 2 weeks.

VWFS cars usually go straight to the auction, after they are inspected. I doubt BCA is checking underside or would pick up on exhaust clamp/welding. If it was Mercedes, that's another matter, I know they take them to their own collectin centre and check in detail.

Ahhh, I wasn't familiar with the process. Do most lease cars go to auction after they have been given back?

Mostly. My last Audi, was taken by BCA driver, who told me he's taking it home 5 miles away and next day drives 50 miles to Blackbushe auctions site. Car showed up on Autrotrader 6 weeks later in Audi dealership 5 miles away. Previous Audi was dumped in dealership when I collected next one and it was picked up by BCA from there and went to some auction site local to Liverpool and was later for sale near Leeds.

I know that Mercedes have different process, they take cars to their own centres for checks and then sell on closed auctions to dealers. Bad cars go to public auctions.

Cars from Leasys go to Manheim and are sold on their own auctions. You can create account and see what's on sale there. You could do the same on BCA website, but they blocked it for individuals.

Looks like buying piece of pipe is not that easy. Not in stock, even though website said in stock, and company doesn't know when it will be. Called another company and they don't have it in stock either and said something about 2 weeks wait.

Alex on FB was offering his for £75 delivered. I believe it was only on his car for a few miles before he rejected the car.

Yeah I asked him about it but someone sniped me too it!!

@Agnes.Surrey - would you consider the alternate method that PCW Exhaust offer?

"The process involves me removing the exhaust from the car and opening the silencer from above, inside is a series of chambers and pipework, I use stainless parts and welding to internally straight through the airflow, once put back together and back on the car no evidence of my work can be seen.

this also leaves the flap functional so you still have a loud/quiet option, meaning no drone when cruising
"

I reached out to him and he will do the resonator and backbox for around £300
