Was getting stuff out the boot at the weekend and found that stupid strap thing. Have removed it and annoying rattle has gone. Only problem now is the noise that the anti static strip I had to fit makes. Does anyone else get massive shocks form their Leon?

Yes every sodding time time I get out of it. Not only that, but it has the capacity to shock both people getting out of the car, one after the other. No idea why, I look after it best i can and it still hates me!

For some reason mine only gives me static charge when it goes on short lil journeys when i go on long ones and it gets all warmed up its fine

Guess i shud start walkin

Always get them shocks, but i let the turbo cool down whilst instructing the lady to go open the house door so she has to get out first...always thinking!

Still a bugger when im the only one in the car, cant really just sit there all day! :(

LOL, yeah i get zapped all the time...so annoying...let the mrs get out first..sucker, she still falls for it...ha ha...

Now I don't know if this is the case with all cars, but I used to get shocks from mine all the time.
Since installing a grounding kit I've not had 1 shock from it at all. Although I'd like to believe it was the grounding kit that solved this, i can't be certain....

the knack to it is to hold a metal part of the door when you put your foot on the ground as you get out and keep your hand there when you vacate your seat. I think it is the fabric in the seat and your own motion when you get out that causes the massive potential difference between you and the car, and like I say if you are already in contact with a metallic part of the door you dont feel it.
Can anyone with a leather interior confirm this?

What was funny about my question smoothuk?

I was simply wondering if it was the material on the seat and friction getting out of the car that caused it.
I stand by my holding onto the metal part of the door when exiting the vehicle.

It is. You'll get more result by changing the type of shoes you wear (synthetic soles are the worst), and what sort of fabric conditioner you use (basically, use some).

The straps you hang under the car do nothing - you are only getting a shock since the car is already grounded (through the carbon black in the tyres). It's you who is getting statically charged.

Simon.

Pagnobito: ok so i thought you were making a joke about getting a shock from sitting on a leather seat...did'nt think you could generate static electricity by rubbing leather...
