FR or Cupra

I chose the FR because I wanted the DSG 'box. Out of the current range, I'd have the CR TDI 170 (I'm happy to trade some high-revving for almost double the economy) but the DSG was only available with the TFSI when I bought mine.

I've had the suspension upgraded on mine so it's more comfortable. I'm told the Cupra is a better ride quality to start with...

Make sure you take a decent test drive in anything you're considering and also make sure you can get insurance first.

I'm in the market for a new car too and have been considering the FL FR or Cupra. I had a new Scirocco 2.0 TSi until a month ago when I changed jobs (I had it as a company car). Anyway. I'm pretty much set on the petrol Leon but one thing I read is that the seats on the Cupra are more intrusive into the rear passenger space. Can anyone tell me if this is really the case? Do the Cupra seats have a much larger "frame"?

Otherwise, the difference to me is minor. I like the idea of DSG but prefer the idea of the extra power of the Cupra.

Also, my wife will be driving it a lot in the week, to and from work. (I commute into London on my bike - KTM RC8 for those who know bikes). Do any of you have other halves who drive Cupras and have feedback on how much they like them? And, slightly more generally, do they have enough boot space for baby Paraphernalia?

Good point.. Though she's never driven an automatic so she's not pining for it. Actually, I'm not sure she even really cares what we get so long as it has space for a buggy in the boot and will do a half decent job of protecting her and a baby should someone drive into them.

She liked driving the manual Scirocco though....

The FR TDi was my wifes choice as she is now the main driver me having a mk1 bus pass since I sold my BM. She would of gone for the Cupra but fell in love with the FR TDi and rejected a BM 120d Coupe.

The comments my wife made were some colours were more for a man than women and the black wheels made it look too much like a mans car

The Cupra seat are not really more intrusive but the hard back could make it uncomfortable for a rear passengers knees, but there is plenty of leg room. I'm 6'7" and got 8 inches of leg room behind the seat (double the amount my Astra had).
Boot space is also good for an hatch, pushchair and stuff no prob.

i'm thinking of going the cupra k1 route (1 year old from dealer with 3000m)... get it revo'd and milltek'd - still cost less than brand new fr

would never go auto box / dsg ever again after my previous one packed up - even my dad's 330 beemer one went tits up, cost 3 grand to sort out so its manual only now in our house

Ive got a cupra and the wife drives it all the time and loves it.i had a civic type r before and we both agree it is a better car to drive on a daily basis,as for space in the back i have two kids and think there's plenty.
As for dsg i find changing gear manualy more entertaining than pressing a button

2. If you want to drive it conventionally you can, using gearstick or paddles, which are levers

Thanks for all the comments so far.. Last question then, for those with FL Cupras. Is the suspension supple enough to not be bone jarring? I understand that the previous version was pretty stiff and the FR stiffer still, but was hoping some of you with FL Cupras might be able to provide some thoughts.

The pre Cupra suspension was carried over for the FL so both ride the same, it was the FR that was given a softer ride with softer springs same as the Cupra I believe so ride of the FL Cupra and FR is pretty similar now.

The Cupra builds on the FR with a more bespoke suspension. Aluminum replaces steel for the steering knuckles and wishbone panelling, saving 7.5kg at the front axle.
