Fr tdi vnt/turbo help

Hey guys can't find a guide anywhere (maybe because im searching on phone) on the "mr muscle" vnt fix. I'm sure I'm getting over boost and even if I'm not the clean will make it run smoother. My car is 2005 fr tdi so engine code is ARL. Has anybody done a guide for cleaning out the vnt with mr muscle something to do with removing actuator and egr. Also while I was doing it I thought I might aswell get the egr blanking plates. Again there's so many different kits out there I don't know what to get. Heard the allards are best but I'm not spending that much would prefer the 5pound blanking plates. Also is there anything else I should consider cleaning up? Thanks in advance.

I think it's just a question of disconnecting the downpipe, sealing the turbo outlet end of the pipe and then introducing the Mr Muscle into the top of the turbo (turbine only, not compressor!) and maybe filling it with the liquid if possible, leaving for a while then working the actuator back and forth manually to help unclog the vanes. I think you can maybe get the stuff in via the EGR pipe where it connects to the exhaust manifold.

Obviously you need to make sure the stuff will not flow back up the exhaust into the cylinders, and also drain it off before reconnecting the exhaust downpipe and going for a drive to burn off the residue.

I could be wrong but this is what I seem to recall reading here. Might work better if the exhaust is slightly warm (but obviously not hot enough to boil the fluid or burn yourself. Say warm to the touch??

Get the car up to temp, find a nice long uphill dual carrigeway, 3rd gear and hold the revs high, this gets the turbo nice and warm under load and the high rpm helps to blow the crud out. Some people claim to get sparks out the exhaust as the carbon deposits burn off.

If its not going into overboost limp mode then no point in mr muscle trick!

Just give it a good lashing now and again to get all the crap out

These cars need hammering

Cleverspoon puts it better :) Get the turbo hot to burn off the carbon, do it once a month or so especially if most of your driving is low speed / commuting. Find somewhere you can hold 70 in third for several minutes, up to 5 minutes. Did the trick for me when this car first showed signs of stuck vanes.

As above give the car a good thrashing first! I cleaned my old turbo with mr muscle and it did work, but I needed a new turbo anyway. I took off a pipe on the r/h side of the egr cooler to get access to the exhaust manifold with the turbo on. Just pushed some piping around the cylindical hole in the turbo (Exhaust side with the vanes). Squirt mr muscle down it till it appears, let it soak and exercise the actuator at the same time. Put it all back together, get it up to temp then boot it! Should notice a difference.

Try theses:

This one shows the removal and cleaning procedure which you do not need to do but it outlines some good pictures of the internals so you can understand it.

Search for VNT MR MUSCLE or similar and you will find plenty of guides. Clubtdi is a very good forum and their FAQ and TDI101 sections have some very good guides.
