Looking to get rid of the "fried egg" look on my leon so went to see if the indicator bulbs were the normal ones or offsets but realised i dont even know how to get them out!

So pretty much... how do i get my front indicators out so i can replace them with silver ones? is it a headlight out job?

cheers
Noel

Think you'll find the inside circle of the actual White lense has an Orange band around it, for the Orange flash when the light comes on (but dont quote me on that)! :)

I was looking at a set of replacement oval tinted indicator lenses on EBay recently. They were supposed to be a direct fit - but wonder if they look exactly the same size.

You need to put your hand inside the wheel arch to get at the rear of the units, to remove them.

You don't need to take the headlight out - its just a pain in the a$$ to do! With the bonnet up you can put your hand in and feel the indicator bulb holder. Just a case of twist and pull, swap the bulbs over and put back (did mine, looks much better!)

Sorry, I understood the opening poster was referring to the White indicators/lense in the front Wing, on the side? Not in the corner of the headlights.

If its the headlights - yeah, you just reach in and wiggle the wires until you find the correct one - indicator. It helps if you switch them on first, so you will know you have the correct light to pull, by watching in through the front of the headlight !

I believe the offset pins are only on the dual filament brake/tail-light bulbs for correct orientation because they have two contacts one for each function.

You need 581 PY21W bulbs; I recommend Osram Diadem, they have an irridescent blue coating that looks good behind the checker lens. They are a bit expensive but last twice as long as standard bulbs; my ones have been in over 5 years.

Just done this.

You need offset pins

Open bonnet. Using pliers, carefully, with your head in between the battery and light, twist from left to right as you look at it (drivers to passengers)

Its only 1/4 turn

Pull out swap over and refit.

Just done mine, now have very sore scratched hands. Not the best of access, especially on drivers side, lots of swearing just took place! :)
