hi guys as peer the title, what are the most common causes of premature inner tyre wear on mk3 cupra's?

its completely standard in the drivetrain and suspension department!

is the camber adjustable on the fronts?

cheers

sounds like you need a camber adjustment. yes camer is adjustable on the mk3's mine is set at around -0.5 degrees but i do have my car lowered and i want grip around corners

so 1 + 1 = .....

what you on about ?

i pay near £150 for 2 tyres, i want the max life i can get out of them.

if the wheels are out of alignment that causes excess wear which shortens the life of the tyre by lets say 1/4 of its life..
spending £30 for a tracking is nothing compared to having to fork out for a new set of tyres.

ok people calm down!! lol

what i mean is are there any components on the front end that are common failures on cupra's?

i.e lower arms, ball joints, etc

i will be getting it tracked at the weekend but had this done not very long ago, i believe it could be a bit more sinister than that, what with never haveing premature wear on the front end before and haveing had the front end repaired after little ladies miss happ, since these tyres were fitted! i get the felling dovercourts never bovered with tracking!! :censored:

it wouldnt suprise me as the whole repair was gash!

There are no commen faults really with the front suspension, id say your camber is out thats why its wearing the inner edge, they wont adjust this when doing tracking, they only adjust toe. You will need a 4 wheel alignment to check camber, caster, cross caster, and toe, get these all right had your tyres wont wear on the inner edge. happy days!

only thing is a 4 wheel alignment is alot more expensive than just doing tracking.

If your car is lowered thats prob the reason the camber is out because you have to take the struts off and that is where you adjust the camber, so when you put the struts back on they wouldnt of put the struts back in the same place they came off.

hope that helps

if tracking is out this wont correct the tyres as they have already started to wear more on one side. I would suggest new front tyres and tracking and keep a close eye on the tread. if you see it starting to bias one side then check tracking allignment again but nothing major to worry about.

My point was a tracking check is usually free... if it's out then you pay ~£30-40 to have it fixed. Pretty simple solution to rule that out

but had this done not very long ago

I had mine done twice in under 2000mi cos when I had my tyres changed they were out by 2deg, not much but it would wear the tyres.

On a similar note can rear tyres gain neg camber on a fixed axle?

what do you have up your ....?

What i meant with 1 + 1 = that new wheels are much more expensive than the alignment of the wheels, so it seems logical that he would get it re aligned....

so keep your pantys on please!

if tracking and camber are ok:

worn wish bone bushes?? causing wheels to shift backward and forward under acceleration and braking respectively

this could cause premature wearing of the inside edges of the tyres
